CGT over F40 all day every day, including in terms of investment. Now the F50 is a diff story, f50 vs CGT is a very hard one but I think id still go CGT to drive F50 to invest.

In all fairness, Polar Peter was comparing a stock F40 to a stock CGT. I'm pretty sure that once you start modifying the CGT, you will end up with an even faster car.

^ and who does that exactly? Fair question. A CGT is next on my list of cars but I do 100% of my own work. I am a little put off about how stockish the vast majority of these cars are, and how little any of their owners actually work on the car.

I'm not a "fast enough stock" kind of guy and have several 800whp cars in the stable (not all Porsches).

So who has modified their CGT any?

Oh, and CGT all the way over F40.

Let me rephrase that a bit. I like the fact that the other cars have a larger community of people sharing technical information and wrenching on their cars. It's a passion of mine. I have been building Porsche motors for 25 years, I have a lift and a PIWIS, and I own a company that makes the only reproduction Porsche engine cases on the planet, so I am more than a shadetree mechanic.

Lots of Porsches go 200mph but aren't technically supercars because they aren't limited production.

Are many people modifying these cars at all?

Thanks for your insight.

Generally speaking, the most you will see is a bolt on exhaust. But keep in mind, even getting that on is no small order which requires a significant amount of disassembly. I have heard of one car that supposedly had hotter cams, tuned with an exhaust but you never really know.

If anyone here can confirm those mods, they will know which car I speak of.

There are also a handful of Gemballa cars running around, not sure where they fall on the pecking order of mods other than aesthetics...

If you own a pagani as well as a CGT, Horacio will offer a really interesting pagani upgrade package. This package was developed after he had his mechanics tear apart his personal CGT to try to fix some of the rear handling issues, and difficulties with the pedalbox, heel and toe and launch. So, if you're an existing pagani owner you can also ship him your CGT and he'll have his team do a little mod magic with some rear toe arms and other small mods which supposedly transform the performance. This is little known, maybe I wasn't supposed to tell.. but anyway..

How do you guys generally feel about the F50 in comparison to the F40 or the CGT? For me the F50 is far more desirable (over an F40) based on a number of factors. Not sure i would prefer it over a CGT.

I personally really don't like the looks of the F50...so it's easy for me.

The F50 and the CGT are distant cousins in my opinion. Sure, the F50 will drive older because of the time when it was released, but the lineage is still there.

The fact that the F50 has a naturally aspirated V12 bolted directly to the bulkhead, a buttery smooth 6 speed transmission that supports the suspension and the ability to remove the top for the maximum effect just puts it in another league for me vs an F40 for example.

The CGT, at least every time I have been in one has been more of an adrenaline inducing experience, in a great way! I think the F50 is a little bit less on edge with limits that are a little easier to approach. I think they compliment each other very well and acheive a similar goal in very different ways and feelings, separated by more than a decade! The only answer is to have both.

I still LOVE the F40, but when talking Ferrari the F50 will always be king for me and when talking Porsche, it will always be the CGT I think both cars will be remembered in history and be symbols of what a great time it was to be a gear head in the 90's and early 2000's

F40 over F50 for me all day. If I had to pick one car to park next to my CGT, it would be an F40. Sadly at todays prices though, Im not sure if its worth the multitudes of other cars I could buy though.

I find this discussion extremely interesting. Having not so much as sat in either, my opinion comes from a different place than many. I have a lust for the CGT that is unmatched by any other car. While I appreciate the F40 & F50, I have no desire to own either. (even though I grew up in the 90's/2000's when friends had F40 and Diablo pics covering their walls). I love analogue cars and the raw driving experience they provide (<<< hence the 911). I love the engineering and beauty beneath the skin, their more mechanical nature as compared to the modern hypercars (no real desire for a 918 either), the natural, pure sound of their engines, and their timeless beauty. The CGT is the king in all of these aspects. Add in that we see owners here take long road trips, go to the track, drive to the office, or just boot around town demonstrates how versatile of a supercar it is. Emotional attachment aside, even the rational buyer must admit the CGT is a winner amongst supercars.

When just driving around it's pretty docile actually...a real pleasure to drive on and off the limit.
