Default 960/988 Any recent info?

Besides the "mystery" car under the sheet on Porsche's Facebook page last month, has any one heard any recent news about the 960/988?

Thanks....and this is my first post here!

I have put in quite a little effort on this and found nothing credible yet, hoping someone else may be able to answer the same question?

And welcome!!

At the high end of the boxer scale, there is that impressive 5.0-liter, eight-cylinder powerhouse still waiting to receive the nod for production from management. With a target output of 750-hp, this twin-turbo unit remains an exercise in high-technology design that’s looking for a new platform to call its own. The prime candidate is Porsche’s tentatively planned Ferrari-fighter concept that is based on the all-new modular sports car architecture, but the car keeps getting pushed further off into the future. Right now, it sits in the holding pattern for a time frame of 2020-2025.

In case you're interested, this was posted on the 991 GT3 forum (https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3/...-deposits.html):

Lower production like a GT3, I didn't ask on timing but I believe that it's the 7th model which has been confirmed will be introduced before 2020.

Thanks guys! I do extensive searches at least once a day for the 960 and so far nada. I also have 4 (phantom?) deposits with my SA on 4 different 2017/2018 vehicles; 960, Speedster, GT3, and GT4 RS. If the 918 became "reintroduced" (which it won't) I'd be on that list too. I've given myself until 4th quarter 2016. If nothing by then I'm not sure what I'll do.

I thought the 960 was dead in the water after the FIA allowed Porsche to move the engine forward in the 991 RSR.

"Walliser did confirm that a bespoke mid-engine Porsche GTE car was in the pipeline, initially for 2016, but the decision was made to instead remain with a 911-based model instead."

This is what I thought too. Rumours that Porsche won't put factory effort into GTE/GTLM class in 2016, and will return with a new car 2017. Initially speculations indicated they were preparing the 960, but later on as your quote suggested, Porsche has got a wavier from FIA to configure a mid-engined lay out car that's based on the 911 platform, so I guess we'll see a twin-turbo 4.0L flat six, mid-engined 911 in 2017.

That waiver has existed for several years and is nothing new.

The previous wavier allowed Porsche to move the engine a little bit forward, but still remained RR layout. The new wavier they got has allowed them to have a MR layout 911.

Taking way too long. This isn't Toyota/Lexus and we're not waiting for the stupid LFA!

Don't hold your breath for a '960'. As long as the R8 lives, it won't appear.
