my singer 911 2015 restoration
#136
I am not sure what the color of calipers has to do with anything (Porsche did not use fancy colors on its calipers until, I believe, the early 1990s), nor the number of pistons on a caliper (my 964 has eight titanium one but so what), nor what the price of a car has do to with the question of being a real (914s, 944s were less expensive cars) Porsche (surely your are not suggesting that something has to be expensive to be genuine or that a person who spends $500,000 or more makes something what it is not). No, no matter how much smoke is blown to obfuscate reality, a Singer is not a Porsche. It began life as a 964 and was then resto-modded by Singer, no more, no less. And, so, yes, whether you like the Macan or not, it is a Porsche, a Singer was once a Porsche and now is a very expensive, quite well executed bastard.

@Robert Linton : Well, a forum is a forum, with people that have different feelings, ideas and perceptions.
I fully respect (and enjoy) this.
Still, for me, a Singer is a fabulous machine, and I continue to think that if Porsche would still be Porsche (do not forget that now, Porsche is a subsidiary of VolksWagen), they should have done a car like the Singer.
I had many Porsche 911 as daily, non-stop for 30 years, and if today I would be back onto a 911 (I currently have a Panamera 4S, a Cayenne Turbo, ..and a Boxster S rigged for track use), and would have 500k to invest in a car, I would go immediately to Singer, and this, without any doubts. (Even, if for such amount, I could almost “get” (!!) 2 new 911R !!!)
About the rear brakes of the Macan : to my perception, it shows clearly that Porsche is now a VW, were saving on important matters (i.e.: the brakes !) is pushed to the max, and we end up with an mid size SUV that have limited towing capability thanks to weak brakes on the rear ! (It is true, today, who buys an SUV to tow ?? only a tiny percent, so, let's forget about these guys !)
Still : Frankly, saving on brakes, ..was not really a characteristic of the **Porsche DNA** !
All to say (sorry for the off topic) : Well, to me, the Macan is NOT a Porsche, it is an Audi rebadged, and this under the roof of mother VW.
I can understand that you can perceive Singer as a kind competitor when I see what your are producing (Cartridge Limited), but then, here, if you apply the same judgment you have on Singer, ..when one of your customer get the very high end parts from you on his Porsche, ..do you also consider that he do not has a Porsche anymore, but a bastard ?

Yes, a forum is a forum -- and everyone has a right to their opinion.
But, first, though you might believe Porshe would have produced a Singer, they did not.
Second, the fact that a Macan might have single piston red rear calipers does not single the end of the world and I suspect that the Macan can live up to its specifications -- which at its price point are not those of a Cayenne.
Third, for your information, Cartridge has sold no parts whatsoever, not a single one, competitive to Singer; nor, as I have stated previously, does Cartridge have any interest whatsoever in building its own resto-mod.
Fourth, I believe that if one changes parts of a car for one reason or another, the car still remains whatever it is. In the case of Singer, however, they have gone to great lengths to say they have changed virtually everything including the entire body, the entire engine, the suspension and the interior. So yes, by the standard for other cars, it is a resto-mod.
Fifth, Singer has removed the airbags from their version of a 964, which gives me concern for the safety of the vehicle.
Sixth, bastard was not meant in a pejorative way, I am sorry it was taken that way.

About Forums at least we agree on one point !
Let’s be more “visual” :
I understood that this was your (real beautiful) car :
According to the (very impressive long) list of mods (this is why I felt it could compete with a Singer !!), would you still call it ..a Porsche ?
Me, for sure, I will, but, according to your standard, may be not you.
Anyway, Kudos for such a beauty, this is a REAL SUPER GREAT Cab !
I NEVER saw such a GREAT hard top, here, in California, I would not need it, but, in Switzerland (where I had the car below), I would have loved it big time.
(I also like your 8 pistons front brakes !)
For your information, one of my daily 911 for many years was this one (WP0ZZZ91ZGS150654), so you may understand why I like yours !
PS : I feel bad, we messing up the great topic of Anonymous 918, please, A918, accept all my excuses.
Btw : By the way, if one day I would order a Singer, ..I will take it the above color.
(Had already 3 x 911 that color !!)

I was on eBay today and found two different GT Spirit 1:18 Singer 911 models for sale. Anyone seen these before? Anyone purchase one?
