No F'ing way. Not a chance the 918 is faster than the P1. Power to weight alone will prove that. The P1 gets to 300kmph several seconds faster than the 918.

Okay, call me cynical, but can Porsche put up something better than this short 2 minute clip of their record?

Like, say the whole 6:57 video clip? Porsche doesn't do that for some reason, even on their alleged fast lap time in the GT2 RS. I wonder why??...... (rhetorical question)

Also, how stock was the car? It had racing livery on it, so who knows?

I know the 918 is very fast, but I don't think it's P1 or LaFerrari fast. I'm betting this car was juiced significantly. Kind of the same thing as turbos failing in car magazine tests on "stock" 911 Turbo's, etc.

The racing livery are factory option for the Weissach edition vehicles, I believe.. it did mentioned that the car that set the record was a Weissach edition with lighter weight, mag wheels, etc, etc.

P1's 7:04 is not official. I suspect it'll break 7 when official number is published.

cfjan, thank you! Hey, look at that. Glad to finally see a whole lap video from Porsche. Still doesn't answer how "stock" the car is, but damn that baby moves.

It's a 918 Weissach Edition. Stock production vehicle on Michelin street tires...why is this so hard to believe?

+1 Porsche has made a ballsy move putting it out there for all to see. Any other company claiming a quicker time better also put out a full length video or else it's just bs.

What? None of the videos answer that.

And it's the SECOND whole lap video.

At least we don't have to question which tires were used

Rock on Spyder!

The Ring is not about straight line speed - its about how the suspension and how the power is utilized. You also want a usable car on the street. What can I say - I'm a Porsche fan :-)

i like maclaren, really do
but this is looking not so good right now for them.
P1 should destroy the 918 by the specs but also by the remarks of their CEO..
Imagine if they cant match the time of a super heavy, spider with full luxury comfort ...
One would think that they learned from the MP4 marketing fiasco

Ever heard of the term "sandbagging"? Everyone does it and so does MC.
Why is a sub 7min hard to believe?

The only difference between this 918 and the one you can buy is that the removable roof was made a true hardtop for safety reasons. Congratulations Porsche! But the real difference between the 918 and the P1 will be in eventually how each of them drive and handle. Despite it being an amazing accomplishment, I would never buy a car because it as 7 seconds faster on the Ring; in fact, I prefer "My Beast" which was almost 30 seconds slower (although I think it could do better now with the newer tires): the Carrera GT. There is a but of a comparison of the two cars by wtdoom (and he is a fan of both cars).
