0626 is above the shift ****. Exactly how many were made? I also noticed that on CGT's this number is not in the vin number.
Thanks,

What are the last five numbers of your VIN? Are they below 01300? Then I know how I have to read the VINs, more via PN, if you like.

Yeah I believe it there where 1280 made as well. Weren't the majority of them for the U.S market? I know the dealer I worked at sold 4 new ones in 1.5 years. Two Silver, One Seal Grey, One Basalt Black

The highest number in the VIN I know is 1284, the lowest 0062, which I found at a Prototype in the Porsche Museum. So I think they numbered each car within the VIN, but not similar with the number above the gearknob.
The car in my avatar is number 0400 above the gearknob, but 0083 in the VIN! I know the whole story of it: the owner first ordered the car in GT Silver metallic (before he even saw one, he only knew the CGT Concept car), but at a visit in Leipzig he saw a yellow one there and talked to his customer-serviceman to get his car in Fayence-yellow. Well, the VIN was reserved for his car, because he ordered his car very early and had paid some money (as every customer had to before they started building the CGTs) and so the car get the VIN 0083, but it was the 400th car which rolled out of the factory, so it got #0400 above the gearknob.
I know of some people who wanted a special number in the VIN or above the gearknob and got them by paying some extra money to Porsche. So there is a big chaos of VINs and numbers above the gearknob.
It would be interesting to know, who has got the highest number in his VIN and how many prototypes Porsche really built within the same VINs.
Yours is looking like: WP0xxx98x5L001238 right? (the "x" is an interchangeable sign, which gives you where the car went (US-market, European-market, Asia....))
