Insurance question

in which a CT judge absolves a guy from paying ANY damage
for hitting and damaging an Elise in a parking lot:

has me wondering what level of compensation would a GT owner would expect say if they braked fast to avoid an object in the road and someone hit them from behind (w/o nearly as good of stopping power) and caused say $150 K worth of repairs? Or put another way... I'm guessing one would have enough un or under insured motorist insurance to cover any shortfall. ( I realize the obvious.. don't hit a GT)
