When the 991 GT2RS was testing at the Ring, Porsche brought the 918 to test the new N2 Cup 2 tires (tires fitted on the 991 GT2RS). It did 3 laps back to back in the neighborhood of 6:52, 6:54, 6:54. This wasn't their record attempt in the 918, but rather a test of how far the tires technology has changed over the years.
When I changed out my original N0 Cup 2 to the N2 version (back in 2019), I took it to Big Willow and my lap time improved by almost a full second. Yes I know, different day, different conditions. But the feedback I felt on the N2 version was the turn in was much more crisper and the tire offered like 20% more grip compared to the original. The downside of the N2 compared to the N0 was the noticeable stiffer sidewall and less comfortable ride.
Last month I put the N0 Cup 2 R on my 918 Spyder and wow, the additional grip it offered over the N2 Cup 2 was immediately felt. More importantly the braking distance difference between the Cup 2 R and the regular Cup 2 was night and day.
I just re-did the clear bra on my car. Can't believe it's been 9 years since I got it but the original PPF did its job and my paint was like 95% brand new after the film was removed. A new Salzburg livery was put on and it feels like a brand new car again!
