Default Very special p-cars... how do you avoid missing out on the ONE?

I'm fortunate to have a job and a budget that enables me to own 1 or 2 very special p-cars. It's fun to look for what's out there to buy, but I find it's also frustrating.

I check Autotrader.com and .ca daily for new additions. Other popular websites, too. There are a few boutique dealers here in BC whose websites I check every few days as well.

When you're looking for that special car... low mileage, excellent condition, no stories, records, etc -- where do you guys look?

Constantly searching online seems so limiting AND very time consuming... do you ever use a broker? Other methods??

With appreciation,
Lance

Brokers are typically the way to go in a case like this. Merit Partners seems to be a go to for finding CGT’s as they have connections. Trying to find one on your own that is traded into a dealer is not going to be easy. Many of these cars trade hands off market without ever going through a normal dealer or being put on market.

As mentioned Merit Partners as well as Sterling Sackey would be a starting point. In any higher end transaction buy the seller.

I appreciate those tips! It just feels like there has to be an easier way.

good cars are often hidden
cars on cars.com etc are cars that aren't selling
depending on what type of car you want, we can refer u to the right "leads"
looking for "special" car yourself is a poor use of your time.

Lance, pay $17 to become a paid Rennlist member, and list a WTB classified in the Marketplace.

what would you consider as an example of an “easier way” vs hiring a broker to find examples for you? I’m just curious.

Buy Mooty a box of expensive macaroons & be ready to send money when he calls back.

Happy to point you towards any publicly listed cars that fit your parameters, and share what info I have on them.

Some of the best cars do trade off-market, but it can go either way.

Keep in mind - just as you wouldn't buy a home without a real estate agent, or go to court without a good lawyer, having some experienced representation (with a good reputation) can be helpful when acquiring cars at this level. That said, many enthusiasts do indeed have the experience and are fine to go it alone, of course.

Would not the first step be to decide what you want?

I read “easier” as “cheaper”.

My two cents - broker is the way to go. I recently wanted a what I believe is a “very special” p-car and a broker shook one loose for me from an owner who wasn’t selling. Note: I think this only becomes relevant on “very special”.
