Carrera GT or Gemballa Mirage GT... Epic or a bad idea?
I came across a Gemballa Mirage GT at what seems to be a reasonable price.
Can anyone help advise me please if this is a bad idea and I should just find a normal black CGT? I am requesting info on the car including accident and service history.
I know it has around 50hp more than the standard car and it cost over 200k to modify, which include a carbon fiber steering wheel, mirror blades, rear diffuser and tuning vanes, side skirts with intakes, roof mounted air-intake that continues on to the engine bay, Gemballa Sport Clutch, electro hydraulic lifting system, new bumpers, bonnet, fenders, etc. and Special Sport lightweight custom exhaust system. Only 25 were made.
I don’t like the orange on the headlights but that can be repainted I am sure. I am thinking about flying out to see it.
Is this a repair and maintenance disaster as I don’t yet know how they squeezed out the extra power and I don’t know how reliable the CGT is to begin with?
i love the frunk, full cf trim and other things about but others seem a bit much. There are also only 25 of them.
I also don’t know if the roof intake means the top can’t come off.
Is there any engineering at all that went into this kit? Any stats anywhere? Or it is just a fast and furious tribute? Are the added parts carbon fiber atleast? And how reversible is this kit?
Not with a barge pole. I'd have to price in the cost of undoing all that ghastly addenda which add absolutely zero value. There are cars with crash history that are more appealing.
lame. roof scoop is show only, literally goes nowhere
Hmm, did you ever actually see one? My memories tell me something different.
Of course Gemballa is "love it or hate it" and goes in the German tradition of "Koenig-Specials style" extreme tuning. But I don't understand the "hate". There are enough factory original cars out there. Actually the Mirage clutch and suspension feel more civilized.
Even from a factory point of view, those cars I've seen were quite decent. I don't know this one, but according to Amian Cars it's run 14.600 miles - so it seems to work, huh?
As always with these exotics it will become very difficult to replace the modfification parts and components when necessary...suffer in beauty
On the gemballa Mirage https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=48&t=337598
I always heard of Gemballa as very extravagant but never anyone fault their engineering or their products and they always sold well but very few cars for sale. I'm a bit like OP, I prefer the original, but this is quite a cool car. Oem front lights and some bimbo bits removal and I would drive it quite proud, even tho I know it's not for everyone palate.
