Should we, would you?
Our Macan is in the process of being rebuilt, right rear quarter of car torn up by semi. On top of initial visual $16,800.00 body estimate the CAN bus is damaged. Nine warnings rotate on dash with ignition on, no crank/start. The car is still in warranty,I fear any issues going forward will end up in an endless debate over what precipitated problem. Will not be certifiable and probably not eligible for extended service coverage if we were to keep it.
What’s the general feeling on this situation. We’re of the mind to walk away, take the loss and get something new.

I'd lean towards walking away as well.

You probably shouldn’t (keep it), and I probably wouldn’t.
With that said, when you do get it repaired, I’d seek out a certified Porsche Collision Center. You can contact your local PCA chapter to see where one is located in your area (or the closest to you).
I understand your concerns and they’re valid ones. Best of luck with it.

If the airbags deployed, there's a Pyro fuse that's preventing the starter from cranking.
In any case, the car will likely never be the same and I'd walk. What would the damage need to get to in order to reach 75% of the car's book value?

Why are you making duplicate posts here and in the macanforum?
This seems to be a regular occurrence.
Aren't you getting enough input over there?
It's really not a forum decision what you do with your Macan - it's yours alone to make. Do what you feel best about.

RL is easy for me because I have other Pcars, but Macanforum definitely has more regular users, and its site is buggy.
The electronics of German cars are going to continue to be a problem with your accident. It is better to walk at this point. Heck, the electronics can act up in these cars without accidents.

Thank you
Thank you Mark and all those who offered opinions.
Im told 2 months before returned at best. Will have a final figure of cost of repair, then have to battle for depreciation loss with commercial carrier. Won’t be able to determine value until then.

If not your fault... I would hire a lawyer that deals specifically in DIminished Value. I would allow Porsche (only) to rebuild the vehicle. I would then sell/trade it. You will lose your butt on this. However...the DV payoff might actually put you in the black on this. Sorry to hear. Good luck with this. And be patient it will take some time to sort all this out.

Walk away.
You will be haunted by what if's on the repair.
2 months estimate? When have you had something come in on time and budget.
I say 3 months and $25k, once they get into it. then another month of sorting.

Agree, walk.
About 10 years ago I purchased a VW GTI. After 2 weeks of ownership, a young driver blew a stop sign and I T-boned the car at about 25 mph. The repair bill was $14k and it took 5 months due to parts availability. The first day I got the car back I knew instantly it wasn't the same. After about 2 weeks it started to have an issue so naturally took it to the dealer since the car was under warranty. After a week they determined it was due to the accident and tried to bill me over $1,000. I politely declined and let them hash it out with the auto body shop. I traded it for a new Cayman a week later and never looked back.
