Default LeMans in 80s bit of history

hello
sorry for off topic but...
In the 80s one of the main problem was resistance of the top gear in gearbox on Mulsane the weakest point of race cars

I was aware a fact of synchromesh gearboxes in in "LeMans Porsche" cars but have you ever heard about "double top gear" in gearbox??

Yes,

4th and 5th with the same gear ratio. Running the first half of the race in 4th and the rest of the race in 5th.

That was the record car in 1968 at Mugello or somewhere, a 911 R.
