Default Small pit in cylinder head. Not FOD

996 GT3 Cup. Looks like a casting flaw. How the &^%^ does this get past quality control?

I'm concerned about it being a potential detonation spot although everything looks fine around it, and there is no mark on the piston that suggests FOD.

Do I need to fix this?

Yeah that looks like a casting issue. You can have it filled(welded) shouldn't be a big deal. if in any other spot it wouldn't worry but with it that close to the valve seat it could lead to a hot spot and a burned seat. Its an intake valve so not as bad as an exhaust, but while you have it apart....

They are bare and according to records were new on last rebuild. We replaced as we went to 997 heads. $750 for the pair
