Default CAR IS ELECTRICALLY DEAD!

Need some help. I have a 2007 997.1 Cup Car. I was loading the car into the trailer yesterday and I shut it off for a minute. When I returned to start it EVERYTHING electrical is dead!

The battery is new fully charged connections tight, checked all fuses twice, outside kill switch is on also tried(bypassed it nothing different) harness connection to ECU is good.

Main switch is only getting power to one side. Disconnected the main switch wires jumped them nothing.

Checked all wires everywhere harness is factory not hacked up.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks, Don

Default Electrical

As far as I can find there is no main car fuse?

If there is anybody know where it is?

The only large fuse 80amp is for the electric power steering pump.

I never looked on a 997 as never had a reason to. But on 996 Cup there is a Fuse behind the passenger fuse block. How I know? One day we were driving a car around the parking before loading. Next day went to start to pull on truck and nothing. After extensive WTFing, we found the fuse behind fuse block on the passenger side tucked WAY UP under the dash. Had to have my contortionist mechanic upside down and around rollbar to get it. That was it.

Default Fuse

Bob, I looked for this fuse for a long time. I removed the fuse box turned it around and found nothing but wires going to the relays and fuses.

I looked everywhere I could under the dash on the passenger side and nothing.

Maybe I will look under the dash on the drivers side tomorrow. I have the factory wiring diagrams and it does not show any type of main fuse.

Maybe this was 996 specific.

There is a main relay next to the battery which all power goes thru first after the battery. I have a feeling it might be that relay but who knows. I am going to track those wires more. The relay has a small red/white wire on it that is the same color and markings that go thru the main switch. More investigation needed. It is not a relay you can go down to the corner and buy!

I will keep hunting but thanks for the tip!

Default Electrically Alive!

I thought I would post the answer to the mystery to help others in the future. After much research we did figure out that it was the main relay that is located in the cowl next to the battery. All power to the car goes thru this relay first.
This relay is also on 996 cars, in fact the factory part number is: 996.612.927.90

Special thanks to Rodger at Orbit for getting me the relay and Chris at Speed Syndicate for the help with the wiring diagrams.

I hope this helps in the future!

Don

Was just going to mention that !! Mine went bad as well, same symptoms. Expensive little thing. I was able to repair mine and I keep it as a spare now.

Default Relay

Yes I agree. I contacted Eurotech and they had none in stock , said he could not find any in the US or Germany and it would take 10 weeks to manufacture one.

I did buy a spare from PMNA last weekend at Sebring.

Thanks!
