It depends on how capable you are in terms of interpreting the data, I personally have always loved to use i2 Pro versus Standard.

I have long forgotten the differences between Standard and Pro, however the Pro software is incredible at slicing and dicing the data. Regarding shockpots, this is one of the first things I installed and I think the most challenging to analyze. Highly recommended.

That's if you'd like a Pro license unique to your laptop to use with multiple cars. You just need to unlock your dash on your car for pro logging and that's it, you can open the files with i2 Pro.

I've upgraded a couple dashes to I2Pro and there is no annual fee in the US. I am pretty sure you can not do shock histograms without I2 Pro. I2 Pro also offers many more math channels and the ability to overlay more than two laps at a time. Also, you need Pro dash to add a video sync module (VSM) which is great to syncronize data and video. If you use your data yourself, I think it is a good move.
