Default 6 Cup Valve Train Questions

- What was the max RPM of the early 996 hydro lifter Cup engines?
- Are the Cup hydraulic lifters of similar design to those on the M96 C2 engine?
- When were the hydraulic lifters superceded by solid lifters?

Bonus question:
What were the valve spring rates of the hydro vs solid lifters?

Other way around. The early 996 cups 99-01 were solid lifter. Late stuff went hydraulic. 8400 rpm on the lqte hydraulic. From memory, 8000 on the early engines.

Now that makes sense. Thank you.
Got a part # on those later hydro lifters?
8400 on a hydraulic lifter is pretty impressive.

Same as the 997 gt3 street cars which do 8400.

Looking in my manuals, I think I misinformed you. The late 996 also had an 8000 limit. It wasn't until the later 997 that they went to 8400.

From the 05 cup manual p/n 996.105.041.92:

From the 08 cup manual (8400 rpm limit) p/n 948.105.071.02

Anyone have a GT3 hydro lifter handy that can measure?
Height(mm)
Width (dia)(mm)
Weight(g)
