Default Axles

I had a set on my Supercharged S2000 track car. Build quality was solid and they were much more durable than OEM. Reasonable cost with decent customer service. I believe they are serviceable as well.

I almost bought a pair of those . Called DSS and asked if I could send them my blue axles to see if they could rebuild them, told them if they were junk to just send me a pair of their axles...They called me two days later said the blues could be refreshed...They rebuilt them and shipped them back...Awesome service and honest people IMHO, would do business with them again !

I have heard very good things from a friend running a VERY high HP time trials car.

Thanks
Steve why would you bother. Use the Blacks and throw them out after 40 hours and not risk a failure?

The axel end is the weak link not the CV Joint

Thanks guys.

Spoke to The Driveshaft Shop sending my original Blue's that my car came with when I bought it out to them for a rebuild.

Seems like better option then replacing blacks every 2 years . ( blues are stronger and lighter) I will keep the Blacks that I have on now as spares.

Your call Steve but rebuilding the blues does not bring them back to zero hours and it is the axel shaft (I doubt that it is replaced) at the center bolt flange that fails, not the cv joint. Exactly what is done on a rebuild.

I think your asking for a failure in an effort save a few dollars. When my 40hr black axel failed it was $5k in repairs not including body work that is still needed.

I think The Driveshaft Shop has stronger axles available also. The cup blue are strong to prevent twisting on Supercup starts (start from a dead stop) but they are too brittle so they break quite often. The Street black are not as hard so theoretically they might bend a bit but they seem to break less.

Driveshaft Shop axles are not cheap ($2500 a pair) but worth a try I think.

When it brakes, it's bad:

This happened to a friend of mine.
Almost everything in rear left was damaged
(suspension/brake/upright/toe links/stabi/wheel/tire)

And he was extremely lucky to being able to control the car.
This type of failure can get you on your roof easily in a fast turn .....

Had very poor service from this shop but as an International customer we are used to this happening. After repeatedly stipulating what we wanted, they sent us the wrong parts and this contriubuted to a failure in our biggest event of the year. Very frustrating! Hopeful that this was a one off, but the guy dealing with my emails couldn't have cared less. And the cost of the CV's they supplied was way over the top for what they provided. I'm sure the axles are a decent product though.

I wouldn't risk a shaft failure. FYI - we sell new Porsche Motorsport axles for the following prices. Replacing these seems like cheap insurance to me.

00-08 997 Cup - $3245.37 each
09-12 997 Cup - 3083.54 each
$5.89 each for bolts - all years, requires 12 per car
+ $40 shipping in CONUS, a little more for international shipments

Mark

Good question. I get a much better price on the 996 parts. There isn't anything noticeably different about the 997 axles.

We removed prices for 996 axles since Porsche will not supply them any longer.
