Default Cool Shirt Installation Advice

Gents:

I am about to install a (24 qt., 8 ft hose) Cool Shirt system with the cooler box located in the front trunk of my 2001 Cup and wonder about two things:

1). Where is the best place to fun the coolant lines through the fire wall from the box up front into the driver compartment and

2). what electrical point should I tap into for power for the pump? (I expect to locate the on/off switch in the center dash panel where the power, fire and other switches are located). Do I need a fuse for this?

3). Any thing else I should know that might not be obvious? (I did a search on this with limited success).

Thanks!

Ted

If you dont have a passenger seat, that really is the best location to install the box. Then the lines are short and it is right there, easy to add ice. I would power to fuse block or direct with inline fuse always hot that way you can control when sitting in the grid.

You make good points. Even so, since I use the car for DE's often and instruct (so must take students out some) I will likely place box in the front. Thanks.

Anybody have a suggestion as to where to run the hose through the firewall?

Joseph:

Thanks. Will do.

We should have two garage bays (one garage) for the Clash.....my payment went through so I am guessing we have a garage although my entry is still listed as "pending".

Remember to check the phasing on the wiring. If you listen carefully you can hear the pump run. Connect it at it's fastest speed to prevent cavitation....

Thanks for the great suggestions. We started the install today and cut a new grommet hole up front on the passenger side and have run the hoses through to the drivers seat. With the 8 foot hose it looks like it will just barely make it. Did did you guys use the 8' hose or go for the longer (12'?) hose. Thanks again. Almost there.

Not a Cup Ted, but execution is the same.

I went with a longer hose as it gives one more play and actually lays down better both in and out of use.

The Cool Shirt is now installed. Thanks to all for the advice. We ended up using the 8" hose (just barely long enough for front trunk installation). We cut/fabricated a new grommet on the passenger side and ran hose and wiring both through. We sourced power off the unused cigarette lighter circuit and installed a 2 1/2 amp fuse. When master power is off there is no power to Cool Shirt. Got a blue on/off switch from Radio Shack and installed it on center panel with other switch gear. Just need a warm track day now.
