Default Thoughts on this 996 cup?

140hrs on the engine means it needs rebuilt or a new motor, correct? What does that cost and how soon do you think something like that can be done?

Racing season is now here, and unfortunately, the engine on my 996 C2 racer went bye-bye--and finding a new, stock, 3.6 to put in that is proving to be difficult. Going to take a lot more time than I really have right now. And let's face it, an E36 M3 track car is no Porsche. Edit: And, this is a perfect excuse to move up to a cup car. The C2 is fun an all, just wish it was faster.

For the buy it now price (well $73,000) I have a very nice gt3 cup RS with a fresh motor and trans.

Yes, with those hours you would be into it for at least $25k right of the bat (depending on who does the work).

With 140 hours on the engine overall maintenance becomes quite suspect to me unless you are skipping other mitigating details. Maybe this was a DE queen? Not enough info.

Engine, Shocks? Transmission? Axels? You know the drill. Potentially a lot of service on this.

So your 3.6 engine let go and first your alternative is to get a cup with 150 hours on the engine? Are you married to my ex-wife and hoping that she won't figure this out?

Seriously: You should be able to get a good 3.6. Either factory crate or updated for race duress. I know a few shops you can go to.

If you want a new car thats a different story.

Firehawk's car sounds like a much, much better idea than the ebay one. Spoke to the ebay seller though...Meh. That's about it. Sounds like it could be an okay car, but there's plenty of room for headaches. I am going back and forth with Firehawk, hopefully we can come to a deal.

firehawks looks way better, agreed. you could go 30,40k out of pocket in a blink from unknown stuff that creeps up despite whatever PPI is properly done. X hours before rebuild is not a hard fast number.

Firehawk's is great. Took delivery of it this last Saturday. Can't wait to get it out to the track this Friday.

I did speak with the owner of the ebay listing. He said the car only has 140 total hours, but everything is original. So, yes, it would take quite a bit to get it back up to snuff.

Right now! Finally got it out to the track yesterday. Great car. Lightyears better than my C2. I put 7 heat cycles on the Pirelli's yesterday (plus however many were on them before) and was running in 1:55's. Still figuring the car out, but I'd imagine 1:52's are a realistic expectation. For comparison, on BFG R1's, my C2 runs 1:58's. Little bit of an improvement, eh?

The cup is in great shape. Luckily, I had time to align and corner balance the car before we took it out. The rear end is a little bit loose still, but not in a bad way. I'd much rather have a bit of oversteer than understeer. Very predictable too.

Anyway, here's a few pictures. More later when I get back from the PCA event next weekend.
