listen, you are correct. race cars are awesome, and porsche cup cars are just wicked.
but if someone thinks running a cup can be done at the costs you've presented, which is basically the running costs ofa boxster or cayman, then they will one day have a 35k engine rebuild on their hands they cant afford and their fun in this spor twill come to an end.

my recommendation is that if youare even close to worrying about costs, if you need to run a spreadsheet to ensure you're ok with costs, and its not just a rough range, then you shouldnt race a cup. one time i contemplated running an RSR. i was asking Jim @ PMNA about what he thought the true running costs would be. his first comments were, if you even have to ask, dont even bother. thats from pmna. nuff said.
I think YOU are right but in his defense his car is not driven at race level conditions, I think if you baby anything it will last longer so his numbers for him I would assume are correct others of course will be different

Me on the other hand am going from racing a GT-1R 996 turbo to a 996 cup, I am hoping to save money with the cup!!

also depends on your level of driving skill and heel toe shifting and any missed anything cause boy I have had some expensive weekends and have broken just about everything!!

Jake see ya there

No its not. Hot section and engine replace is about 500k.

hot section is good for 2000h or cycles and engine 4000....IIRC.

There are 2 of them though and it goes 500 mph

All fun!

I fly an Eurocopter EC-145 Helicopter (Twin Engine, IFR), these truely make a Cup Car look cheap!

The 6cup is still a deal in cost and fun! Especially compared to what divorce costs!
I will be in divorce court if my wife reads this thread!

I wonder where those gearbox numbers come from? I had mine opened for inspection after having bought the car (which has 50+hours on engine and gearbox). It cost me like 1.5K to get it in perfect shape (most of it being labor). The numbers quoted above are what corresponds to a sequential gearbox rebuild over here. (talking professional race team, not some guy doing it in the weekends in a shed).

Great thread, I choose to believe the OP's numbers are pretty accurate.

Christian,

You, Ed, Graber and Brant all suck. Did I miss anyone?

Edit* Chris Streit and Brad Waite suck too.

Although 997, I'll bet most of the Brumos 4.0L cups are still "Factory Fresh". The one for sale at NOLA is only lightly used. It will remind you of Trakcar 4.0. ;-)

Any car in the competition world is gona cost $$, even if only used for D.E/open lapping. All comes down to how many hours you use the car in a season and what you use it for.
A 996 Cup is a great way to do it based on the tried and tested factory race car platform.

Tell the wifey that $1000.00+ an hour on the track is at least better then $1000.00 an hour on prositutes and drugs…

The 6CUP is great. It's too early in the process for me to put a cost per hour but frankly, I'd rather not do the math.

I decided to race Winterfest this weekend. I believe you are going to be there also, correct?

Izzone and I are doing the Enduro on Friday and then I will be running the sprints on the weekend.

Should be a blast.
