I have a lovely standard 2002 996 RS myself in factory spec and am seeing a few on the market for sale at the moment and wondering are most of these going to end up in collections at this stage and are they a good investment for the future
Here is a 2001 RS which seems cheap http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...car-996/984316
This looks like a really nice car 2002 RS but seems to be modifyied a bit from factory spec which might not appeal to a collector http://www.racecarsdirect.com/listin..._race_car.html
Here is a 2004 RSR http://www.racecarsdirect.com/listin..._24h_2004.html
This is my own 2002 RS which seems to be the most origonal and is Mint http://www.racecarsdirect.com/listin..._gt3_rs_r.html
This is a 1999/2000 R Car with sequential http://www.racecarsdirect.com/listin...96_gt3_rs.html
Here is a 2000 R thats been for sale a while http://www.racecarsdirect.com/listin...gt3r_2000.html
I am sure there is also a few cars available stateside also but Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on these cars as a good investment and will the modified cars be less attractive as an investment
So lets have your thoughts

negative on the investment, imho. i've had a number of collectible race cars.
the 962, 934s, 935s, gt1s, 993 RSR might be collectible.
to me, after that 993 era, the cars became too common place and also lack that crazy historic pedigree.
i just dont see anyone payhing for a 2000R or a 2004 RSR. infact, unless im mistaken, the prices have gotten weaker and weaker fo rthese cars as they are getting more and more expensive to rebuild motors and trans as parts/pieces becmoe impossible to find.
just my two cents.

IMHO
I think all factory race cars from porsche have some long term value, especially rare examples such as R, RS and RSR.
However to be of serious value, they would need to have strong race history and be well sorted to showroom condition.
Other then track days and historic racing, the well used non winning history examples do not really serve any other purpose other then being a track car. Being the last of the low production manual tranny race cars they will indeed have a place in the market but not for a collector as such. Once Spares become an issue the market then begins to dry up.

For my own sake I hope they do! lol
Realistically I would imagine there will eventually be some value, but probably not crazy big money. Right now they are too old but not old enough, so prices are probably at their weakest. 993 RSRs were going for peanuts 5 years ago, now prices are much higher (at least the asking prices I see).

Sports Car Market would call these cars "weapons grade", unless they have a top venue winning pedegree, i.e. LeMans, Sebring. As such their value is dependent on where they can be used and how competitive compared with other cars, as well as running cost. As mentioned above they are too old and too new for vintage racing and cannot be street driven. Eventually, maybe in 10-20 years they will be rare enough for collectors to notice. Remember, the currently $500k 3.0 RSR or 934 was only worth 100K maybe 8-10 years ago unless it was a major race winner.
