Not sure, but the earlier 996's can't be read as far as hours go I know this to be true. I bought mine in good faith, sure it smokes now after been sitting for a week or so, but it's still plenty fast, and reliable as a hurricane in Florida !

I would recommend sending the ecu into PMNA for reading or finding a shop that uses Modas. It can be done with durametric if you know what you are doing but i had a bad experience with a shop hooking it up and thinking the ecu was the same as a street 996. it is not and will give you the wrong info.

hmmm
Seller told me today that doing an ECU read out, after they have re-set it, will not show the actual running hours after rebuilt. It will show total running hours only (life time) and fault codes (if any).
The re-set has erased the over revs.
Are they right about this ?
Thanks in advance

I would highly suggest you call PMNA, I was just looking at a 997 cup and had them read the ECU, it did not clear any running times, more importantly, it gave me all the over revs which caused me to pass on the car.
I will never, ever buy another car without having the ECU read.

Oops, just realized your "over the pond" call Porsche Motorsports, instead of Porsche Motorsports North America. I would assume they would still do an ECU read over there.

i just read mine recently on a 996 i will be selling in a few weeks.
the following is a screen shot of what you get on a 997 cup. on the 996 cup it does not separate rev ranges just gives you the max rev the engine has seen.
