external emergency pull replacement

external emergency pull replacement
got all my new parts today for replacing my external pull cord.
now i know its a monday but its not looking like it assembles as i had imagined and the one that came off the car was just a length of wire (no spring) that went through a hole in the toggle.
ive tried all sorts of possibilities and im wondering if my understanding of how this operates (ie spring takes the pulling force) is indeed correct after all. i can get it together and operational but not with the spring taking tension when pulled.
if anyone can give me details how this all goes together id be much obliged.
ive got a new toggle switch (no hole in shaft), two screw nipples (wire clamps), a spring, a length of wire and some red shrink tubing.

This is the way mine mounts up: I bought the switch from a 996 or 997 RS model and transferred it to my 968. There is a piece of hard plastic thick walled tubing to keep the loop formed, and the clip keeps the wires in place. The switch came pre-drilled. Hope this helps.

I believe it is 996 613 183 70, from the 996 GT3.
About a hundred bucks from Sonnen online. Included a trim piece with the switch mounted, which of course I didn't need, and you could reproduce this for less based on the photos.
Hope this helps. Seems no one really shows a closeup of the mundane old external master off switch!
