Default 996 Fuel Cell Questions

Hi,

I am considering a 996 cup car that has a fuel cell installed in it.

I know that the bladder is going to be out of date requiring a new one.

To be honest. I am really not interested in investing in another bladder that will depreciate $1k per year or more combined with the trouble of fueling the car through the dry break in the center of the hood. (since I will never be fueling from a fuel rig)

What are my options. I would assume that to go back to a stock tank I would have to replace the cell with the stock tank, also get the stock pump, and all the little pieces for fueling from the standard location.

Then, replace the hood of the car that has a hole in it.

Any thoughts, suggestions.

I assume that the value of the expired fuel cell is near nothing. Pumps...

Thanks

Ed

valeu of expired cell isnt zero. a few grand. i sold one just recently which was expired for about 2800bucks. new was about 10k.
so a few bucks more than $1k / year.
hood will be $1k all done etc. shipping and what not.

some cell companies will let you send them cell and they will recertify for 1 year, and they'll do that twice.

How much for the recertify.

None of the groups I run with will require a cell, so if I can net out the cost of the changeover, then that is fine with me. Swap hoods with whomever would buy the cell?

Or, make a deal to swap out all of the cell components for the tank components straight up ?

Thanks

I recently sent in my Fuel Safe for recertification. It has a two year cert.
I believe it cost me around $4,500 to have my mechanic remove/ship/reinstall in a 997 cup.
If I am not mistaken there was quite a bit of hours to drop the cell.
You should be able to contact a couple of shops, as I am sure there are a lot of perfectly good used tanks out there that were removed for cells.
