Default Success ballast mounting

Hi,

Our local race series is considering some rule changes for next year, including success ballast. I am worried about it coming loose and flying around the cabin!

Does anybody have experience of safely mounting ballast in cup cars ?

Many thanks,

Simon

Yeah, it's very safely done on the floor on the passenger side. You put lead with straps that are held with very strong allen screws. No problem at all (don't ask me how I know how it resists when you wreck!)

Farnbacher-Loles had ballast boxes built out of heavy steel plates with a removable top for all the IMSA GT3 cup guys. They bolt right to the passenger seat holes (they may need to be tapped for threads). I got mine powder coated white. I will sell mine is anyone wants it.

Hi Mike,

Do you know what the maximum weight the ballast boxes could accommodate ?

Thanks,

Simon

My box is sold but lead is very heavy so I bet it could hold a few hundred pounds, it's about the size of the bottom of a stock seat.

Thanks Mike.
Did you know if there were any safety concerns running larger amounts of weight in the box, say 200lbs ?

The box bolts to the stock seat mounting holes. THey must be safe up to 300 pounds or so to hold American passengers
