It was sold in 2001 to a Porsche dealer in New Jersey who had it on his showroom floor for a couple of years. A guy here in Phoenix bought it in 2002 and ran it in a few regional races very slowly. I bought in April of 2006 and have run about 5-6 weekends on it in 2006, 2007, 2008, and this year. I won the SCCA Southern Pacific GT2 Championship this year. The car holds several lap records in this region.
I do not know how many hours on the engine but the total miles on the car is 7619, not kilometers. (Maybe 65-70 hours?). The engine has never been modified or rebuilt. It still has the original factory seals on it. The radiators have been upgraded to 2005 and the air box is upgraded as well. It has the later Cup wing. The car has a three nozzle SPA Fire System. It has a hard wired AMB transponder .
The car has an Aim MXL data system, two in car cameras, and a mini DVR. It includes the stationary beacon and battery for the Aim system. It has a cool suit system and a Motorola Radio. The ECU had the latest PMNA upgraded flash done in May 2006.
The front bumper has been modified with the later air ducts for the larger radiators, but the front bumper is on its last legs. The tub has never been damaged, very clean and nice inside the trunk and the interior. The left front fender has been replaced as has the hood. The roof panel has several dents in it when the hood was not fastened down and it damaged the roof. There is ding on the left rear fender wheel wheel opening, but no other body damage. It has never been in a serious shunt. I have all the service records on the car since 2002.
It comes with three sets of factory BBS wheels and three sets of brand new Michelin tires. It also comes with two nitrogen bottles, air wand, travel rings, and torque wrench. It had a new clutch, spark plugs, battery and pressure plate 9-27-08. The car was set up here in Arizona by Chris Cervelli and dynoed at about 343 HP when it was last done. Chris's set up on the car still remains. Synchros in the tranny are getting worn, so probably time for a refresh. The engine does not leak any oil and is tight. Minimal spares include two new axles, plugs, serpentine belt, radiator hoses, ETC and original Cup Wing. Car has SCCA, and POC and PCA log books.
I am selling the car as is for $50k, but that only includes the car. I will try to sell the spare wheels and tires, and spare parts separately to try to make up some of the monetary loss. I will keep the radio for the Boxster.
I would also sell my 24' enclosed trailer and 2004 Chevy 3/4 ton Duramax if someone wanted a package deal.
Regards,
Paul

this thread got a little off track last time out ... I'm gonna dust it off but feel free to point me to a better answer than the one below
back then the question was differences between 2001/04 and 05 cups...
and this was the best though partial answer
I know the air intake was upgraded in 05 to the whale mouth - trying to seperate hot air better
but none of these have the ram air scoop
they have wider BBS (offsets) than the earlier ones
and the radiators were upgraded in 04
The wings/uprights don't seem much bigger and there's no change to front splitter is there?
I think the DME went more advanced too - MOTEC?
any other major points to add??
thanks Folk

the 2002-2005 are very close.
There was 04 upgrade spec that changed allowable ratios for Carrera Cup and a few minor details. The 04 cars the cage changed design slightly.
The 02 cars wheel offsets were slightly different.
The 99-01 cars are basically the same with some detail upgrades as they went.
There is nothing stopping a 99 shell being upgraded to 05 spec.
As already observed --many of the cars have been updated to a mix of spec.

Biggest change was going to long rod motor beginning in 03 on and better diff starting in 04. So different rods p and c's
Different heads and valve train.
The rest of the stuff is nickels and dimes. Wider wheels gives you wider track.
You can actually run 10's and 12's if you get them just right.
What works nice on early wheels is to use the rear outer half on the front to make it a 9 with max track width. Then you put a 2inch outer in the rear outer to get to max track width in rear and 11 inch rear width.

Thanks Glen - was that big HP difference? Was chassis much stiffer or was that 997 gain?
And thanks Clay - I take it that's a gain but Bosch 3.1 not much more friendly that the motronic?

Chassis went stiffer in 01, 02 and then 04, having driven them all I actually prefer an early car with long rid motor and small brakes. Revalued nonadjustable bilsteins and higher compression , damping when rebuilt/ revalved and higher spring rate... Assuming no class restrictions

LOL...my '04 has the pit road speed limiter...and I found out the hard way I had it. Someone pushed that tiny button in accidentally at some point and took us a bit to figure out why the car had no power.

Not between 04 and 05 they are identical. 98-00 identical, 01-03 stiffness identical(Though some state an improvement in the 02) I dont rember any cage or gussetting difgferences between the 01,02,03 so I thing the are the same. IN 04 the cage was changed behind the seats adding an X brace instead of the older diagonal style. 05 same as 04...
