For 2010 IMSA is allowing different models of the 997 cup to run in their new GTC class. Has anyone heard more info about this new class? The rumor is grand-am models, current IMSA cars and I assume the new 2010 cup can all compete in GTC. Will they have the GTC class at the 12hr of sebring and petite lemans for 2010? Will there be a limit on who is allowed to compete in the class like they do this year? (can't have 2 pro level guys in same car). It seems like a good alternative to Grand-Am and the tube frame class GT is becoming. I would love to be able to do the 12hr and petite in our cup car. Anyone here interested in doing some races?

I'd love to! Been trying to think about what I want to do next year too.
I've heard something similar, but different. Not that GA cars would be allowed, but that 2010 cars would be "Platinum" and that the "Gold" cars would be any stock 997 Cup from '06-'09 with updating/backdating allowed. But i'm not the definitive source on this for sure.

What Cory heard seems to be the same as what I heard, that's one major reason I got a Grand Am car. I did not hear if the 2010 cup will be allowed but I think Porsche may be the one to set the balance between cars, to allow a stock cup to run against a Grand-Am or Speed World Challenge car. Should be interesting!

I really hope they don't try the "platinum, gold, silver" thing. They should figure out how to equalize all of the cars and let them all race in 1 (hopefully big) class...

Here's a pretty good explanation of the new ALMS structure that does seem to include GA and World Challenge cars in GTC.

David, what you are describing are the rumored new rules for IMSA Patron Challenge.

For GTC (the Cup cars running in ALMS), they are going to allow 2010 Cups, World Challenge and GA cars. There will be a balancing factor that has yet to be determined.
For IMSA Cup, they are going to allow the 2010 in one class and all other years of 997 Cups in the other class. The 2006-2007 cars will be allowed to update the motor to the 2008-2009 and the 2008-2009 cars will be allowed to change the 5th and 6th gear to match the 06-07 cars.
