Was this developed for the GT or GS Car's? I would be very interested in learning more about this.

The best combination is to use the manual masters and adjustable bias from the 7 along with ABS. I raced an M3 GTR with an incredible ABS system. It was the best by far I have experienced. The 996 ABS cuts in too early sometimes. The threshold is set too low. Also the 996 bias is off as well. You can play with pad compounds to help but it will never be as good as the 997. A 997cup or RSR with ABS would be a big advantage over a long race.

Are you talking about the MS ABS, or the stock? The stock unit is sub-optimal with slicks in a racing environment, but the MS unit works well.

It was done for the 997s at Daytona. Some very serious people were involved in the development. It performed successfully during the race.

If you want to find out more, it would be best to take this off line, I think its brilliant as it makes it much less stressful for patrons at night and in adverse weather conditions.

We came up with some other 'cute' ideas too.

The race "GTR" (referring to m3 gtr) unit is currently available from several sources. Its merely slightly reprogrammed unit with diagnostic interface, and some other parameters. The basic stand alone ABS system is pretty damn good, plus it can output signals from its sensors so you can tie them into your Data acq (motec/aim).

If you are in the market for a race ABS, I'd suggest waiting until December, when Bosch MS is publicly "officially" releasing their new abs motorsport system...its going to be awesome, and competitively priced, and fully inclusive.

The current CSL (bmw) based ABS systems work great, and are on many professional porsches. The M3 GTR uses a slightly different unit, but its still similar hardware. Bosch Motorsport has not built a dedicated motorsport ABS unit since the early 90's DTM era.

Cory, the E36 M3 you drove used the older ABS system, the newer systems are going to be even more developed than the recent 4 channel systems, which are significantly improived over the older 3 channel systems from the street cars and early 90's, plus its going to be more "user friendly," i'll leave it at that until its all public

I'm psyched!

We had BMW race ABS in a 997 Koni GS car and it was horrible. Came on much too early. Probably was not set up right.

Most likely was not setup properly. It needs to have all the sensors working properly to determine the conditions (accelerometer, brake pressure, etc).

I did just get the spec'd for the Bosch ABS M4 system, it looks fantastic! I predict a lot more people start using this system, and possibly some rules will change to allow it and maybe even become a standardized component.

hello
ABS, automatic bliping on the sequential gearbox or better gear box on the 997 cup cars?
all these have been done in Germany long time ago.
it works better in wet and mixed conditions. no advantage in the dry except if you are realy trail braking hard.
expect at least 6000 eur in parts + 3000 EUR labor to have a very nice race proven ABS in the 997 cup car.

Konstantin

PS: anyone here wants to race in the 24h in Dubai. we need a pay driver in a 997 cup car. our driver is sick

ABS for the average joe racer (with an above avg budget I guess, but its worth every penny) is about to change with Bosch Motorsport's M4 unit they just released

I'm psyched!

Konstantin, I think you need to do a price check, because Bosch's new Motorsport ALL INCLUSIVE package is only 3900 euro, and any competitent race shop (or at most with some assistance from Neel at Apex) can have it integrated into the car/ecu for way less than 3000euro.
