Default Michelins!! WOW

Just looked at times from a track that we have been running for the past 7 years and this year we were 3-4 seconds faster with the only major change being from yoks to Michelins. I am suprised that the tires made that much of a difference.

No suprise at all but..... Yoko has a new cup tire coming out in early 08'. Bobby Faieta was testing them at Buttonwillow last month and said he thought they were as fast as the Michelin Cups and noticably faster than the old Yokos. They will be a true 245 front to match the Michelin sizes. Were you using the 235's up front or the 255's?....

we were running the 255's but they tended to rub the fender liners pretty quickly

what is the ideal camber for the michelins. i think the cup manual says 4.4 and 3.75. However i hear they like a lot more camber than that

It 's really subjective. When the 6-cups were running IMSA they would dial in massive amounts of neg. camber for qualifying, then back them down a bit for the race. Numbers like -6f/-5r were common.....
Out here most cup racers are much more conservative hoping to get more life out of their Michelins. I usually run -5f/-4.5r except for the upcoming Yoko Cup Race at Infineon. I backed off to -4/-3.5 for the Yokes....
