Default Which laptop?

Hello,

I have a 997.2 Cup Car and was after some advice on what would be a reasonable laptop to buy to go with the car... I would only use the laptop for the car... nothing else. What would be the best operating system to run on the laptop? I have a Bosch MSA Box II cable.

I've always used Apple computers so I'm pretty clueless when it comes to PC's! Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Lenovo works for me. i7 processor and 16gb ram. 11th gen intel chip. Hard drive is up to you. Video can take a lot of space.

Have some fun!

Anything i5 and up will be plenty. Dell, Toshiba are good options. I have had a plain old Toshiba with an i3 core running Windows 7 (very out dated OS) for years and it runs the motec software just fine. I even accidentally ran over the laptop with my trailer at the track one day and it lived to fight another day. Windows 10 or 11 OS on a simple lap top is all you need. If you are doing lots of video you may want to up the memory a bit, but the motec software doesn’t need anything fancy.

Spiller is right on for the motec software. It is when you add in VBOX video etc that you need/want a more powerful laptop that copies files faster etc. Motec is an older program that is not resource needy. But I would be prepared for the video stuff. 😁

Get something with a built in SD card reader too, makes data offloads easier. Make sure it has an ssd.

I picked up a Dell a couple years ago and am happy with it. I didn't want to spend over $700. Wanted 13.3 display for compactness but didn't need a touchscreen. SSD hard drive is a must for speed and durability. i5 processor is plenty: .i7 is better of course. I have read 8GB of RAM is necessary for graphics and the operating system size these days. I got an Inspiron 13 5391 for about $675. Looks like the current model from Dell is the Latitude 5320. Its $699 from Dell Link below). The only drawback on these machines (and most compact laptops today) is that they only have a micro-SD card slot vs the full-size SD card slot. Not an issue if you use micro-SD sized cards or you can plug a standard SD card reader into one of the USB ports. Disclaimer: I dont work for Dell and I'm not a computer whiz!
