Default 996 Cup - best seat/seat rail for more headroom?

Hello! As per title, anyone have experience with a good seat and mounting gear/sliding rail to create the most headroom for a taller driver?

Car - Very early 996 Cup.

I recently had my shop re-drill the side mount which helped drop the back of the seat lower which worked well. If you are quite tall the only real option is to mount directly to the floor.

In the 996 and 997 cars, if I was the only driver, I'd find a good position and just hard mount to the floor. Even then I'd have to run shorter windshield visors to be able to see up hilly sections.
I'm 6'3"-ish before putting on the helmet for reference.

I think I need to do this. I’m still using the original recaro seat that was delivered with the car. It moves lots when cornering. Is most of this coming from the rails? I’d imagine direct mount to the floor would feel a lot more connected.

You may have cracked floor base that sliders are bolt to.
It's a common issue and easy to fix, by replacing or reinforcing and welding it

I do have a partner that I share the car with, but we're not a million miles away in height. Maybe bolt to floor, and then it's just either cushions in for him, cushions out for me. Thanks, something to try!

No cracks but can definitely see where the metal has fatigued.

...and do not forget to remove the seat cushion (harder on your butt, but...)

Spiller : If the original seat is like the 997 one, it is also the seat itself. In my former 997 cup, I was able to flex it by hand and have the side head ear nearlyboutside of the car. With the P1300, all I could do would be but the car on its side ;-). Best seat I ever had !

Yes definitely helps to remove the lower cushion. Very interesting, I would prefer to keep the original seat but this is also a safety item so will have to give this some more thought.

Rost try my car when you come to Zandvoort. I have a RaceTech seat and have lots of space. The guy that sold me the seat will also be there so should be able to advise you.

Reviving this… Did anyone ever have any success finding another slider for the 996 Cup that doesn’t impede the seat from being lowered?

I’d like to keep the option to move my seat forward and backwards. The slider mechanism keeps the seat from being lowered past a certain point.

I have a new Sparco seat with the mounting sides which gives me lots of opportunities to lower the seat. Problem is the seat slider doesn’t allow that to happen.

In my other seat I took the cushion out but I’m still higher that I want to be. I’m trying to avoid a fixed to the floor mounting approach. I never saw anyone come up with an alternative slider for a 996 Cup Car. Thanks.

I took out the bottom cushions in my 997 Cup and it made a huge difference.

Does anyone have experience with PCI Racing mounts? I came across these 2 options and Demon Speed sells them so I figured maybe somebody here has installed them. I have no affiliation with them, just trying to explore options of lowering my seat in my 996 Cup. Would like to maintain flexibility to adjust seat forward and backwards. Thanks.

The one that is called "adjustable" does not have a slider. It is adjustable by removing and reinstalling bolts. It is lower than the one with the slider by about the thickness of the slider components, which is almost an inch.

The one that is called slider mount is about the same as the adjustable one with the addition of the slider.

They are very well built and made to fit the Porsche mounts. They also have a wide variety of holes to fit pretty much any seat as well. I have not yet heard of anyone saying that it did not end up fitting their seat. We do have other seat side mounts that are wider or taller than the standard if the standard that comes with the mount does not work right.

Here they are on the Demon Speed site.

Thanks
