Haven't had to use it yet but I just bought a storage, transportation, and paddock policy through Hagerty and intend to continue purchasing track day insurance for each event.

I have transportation insurance with my trailer, storage insurance in my garage at home but nothing on track for driving..........Track insurances are so expensive (1k/day) and retention easily 10-20k on a 60K car value, so I think for myself it would only make sense if you count on the risk of completely destroying the car, all other crashes will hardly exceed 20k in my case (996 Cup) and for that cash I should be able to find a tub to rebuild it (or if not sell the good parts)
Of course for newer (leasing) cars the costs of insurance I think do not affect the budget very much for a racing season.

I've always had race insurance. Only made one claim but it was when a codriver totalled my car and walked away at VIR. It was very lucky for me I had the insurance.
I would recommend it. My new car the coverage is incredibly expensive. I'm not sure I will get the insurance this time but I will see. For practice days I will most likely just insure with Open Track.

I was using Hagerty track insurance ~$420 / event for a ~$70k car, until they stopped their Canadian coverage - moved to Open Track which was a bit cheaper. Also had Paddock Insurance - covers storage and transport, and while NOT on the track through Hagerty, for ~ $400 / year
