997 Supercup Pipes
Hi All,
I have a 2007 997 Cup and looking at straight piping (deleting) the rear muffler box.
Question I have is I’ve noticed all the Supercup exhausts I’ve seen have headers-cats-straight pipes.
My car car does not have cats so if I straight pipe and delete the rear muffler is it going to sound terrible as in I presume the cats may take the edge of it a little ?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

“Terrible” is in the ear of the beholder. I run straight pipes/no cats and only the muffler when the track demands. I’d leave it on but it’s wearing out and expensive to replace. The cats will also serve to take the edge off sound-wise but not perhaps quite as much as the muffler.
‘Straight back from the headers it’s obviously pretty loud, but no complaints- in fact usually the opposite.

Thanks for the input.
I guess what I am trying to say is, with straight pipes is there much difference to the sound with/without the cats?
I have only heard the Supercup system with the cats and love it. Was just concerned without the cats will it be the same note just a fraction louder ? I was more concerned that it would sound ‘dirty’ without anything.

My friend Bill has a 2007 World Challenge Cup with straights from headers. To me it sounds mean - I would love my Cup to sound like that (I have a 2009 Cup with cats)

Does anyone know the part number for the oem world challenge headers? I have a full factory Cup exhaust without side mufflers. It's all Cup, no street car parts. I also have a full Grand Am Cup Inconel exhaust also all oem from the headers back. There are several versions of the grand am exhaust. I've had few sets of super cup pipes and they've never found their way on my car. The clamps for the inconel and non inconel Cup stuff are very different. In fact does anyone have any world challenge headers they would sell?
Also will the car lose some power with the only back pressure coming from the route through the headers? The super cup pipes as we all know are basically straight. Thanks and sorry for the threadjack. Thought this might help.

That was also my concern, no back pressure at all on straight pipes. I am trying to decide to give it a go or just add a small resonator either side to take the edge off it.

Give the straight pipes a shot. What have you got lose besides your hearing (a few lbs and maybe a few HP down low).
You can always go back.
