Reviving an old thread to see what the scene for 997.1 cars is now. I'm planning to take mine PCA racing first but 3 cars in class seems to be a good field the past couple of years. Where else can I find more cars to race with? Looks like IGT has moved on from the 997.1. I don't need a huge field in class to have fun but more then 2 -3 would be nice. Thanks for any info / recommendations.

Hi Scott,
POC has a good group of cars to run with. Your car would run either "GT3 or GT2" depending on your dyno results and weight. (use the restrictor from Demonspeed to get into GT3) POC will have a big group to run with, and 4 to 10 cars in class depending on the event and the class.
It is hard with PCA sometimes to get more than 1 or 2 "older" cup cars like the 997.1 or 997.2. But, there can be people to race with depending on the event. At certain tracks in the west the older air cooled cars with no weight are a struggle to stay ahead of!

Guys,
This is a bit premature since we are only starting to talk about it, but there may be a NASA GTS mini series in the works.
I will keep you up to date on it, but it would be an east side thing.
GTS4 is a really good fit for the 997.1. With the current calculator, you probably would not need to restrict. Maybe adding a few LB's.
Thanks
Ed

Yea, I don’t understand why organizers think a 996 cup with a 3.6 is supposed to compete against a car two generations newer

Mike:
IGT 3.6 liter class runs through 997.1 so, only one generation newer for 996 drivers. When I raced a 996 Cup, I found that I could compete against most 997.1 drivers. The 997.2 cars, as I recall, bumped up to 3.8L and were faster. They 997.2s also had more aero and mechanical grip.
