if you do manage to get a drawing, I'd also be interested in a copy.

I have written to BBS and asked for information, should I receive a reply I will share.

Alternatively if anyone has a set of drilled E28 and are prepared to measure the counterbore and provide dimensions it would be appreciated!

This is for the E88. Seeing this is machined aluminum, using this dimension for magnesium may not be ideal. But you get the idea.

Also, keep in mind that Magnesium wheels really should be checked carefully for cracks. And they require a special paint coating different from the aluminum to prevent corrosion.

I just wanted to let everyone here know I do not have the drawing for my 5-lug conversion and you will need to either get measurements from another wheel or see if you can get those from BBS.

Drilling 996 Cup E29's for 5-lug. Noticed that the late 052 locator holes aren't synced/aligned with the spokes compared to the early 021.
Has any one drilled late E29's and can provide a picture of the backside mating surface?

I would suggest that you talk with BBS Motorsports in Ga. Pretty sure they will tell you not to drill the rims that the factory didn't.

Ray

Also, the E29's, the way they came on the 996 and 997 cup cars, are not the same as what you can get now new.

So, if you want to have original cup car wheels, especially the 996, you need to find them used.

I am saying this because the value of the original wheels will undoubtedly be going up. You can get a very similar wheel, but not exactly the same.

We can get you a set of centers, or wheels, that would be made for the 5 lug wheels new for probably what you would pay for the used wheels plus the cost and/or time to drill and machine for the 5 lugs.

Thanks

Ed

Pretty sure I paid ~ $2K for a set of 4 new centers from BBS GA. that supported both centerlocks and lugs 3 or so years back.

Thx Ray, but pretty sure BBS has done it in the past.

When I spoke to them, they strongly suggested that I not drill them. Now maybe they wanted to sell center sections, but I didn't want to risk it. I just bought some new centers. I really don't know if there was a difference in the webbing... didn't look

I would say that if you track the car with sticky tires, you probably want to err on the side of caution.

No worries Ray. Just to clarify I'm talking about E29's in aluminium, not E28 in magnesium.
I have E88 CL with 5-lug at hand for comparison. Spoke webbing isn't affected.
At the end just wondering why the 15 locator pins have shifted from early E29 -2002 to late E29 2002 -

I have a set as well I plan on drilling, mine seem to match up unless I am looking at this wrong?!

These are E29 late, centres 0299052.
When you look closely every 3rd locator pin bore doesn't match with a spoke.
Below pictures shows top E29 late / bottom E29 early.
Spot the difference in spoke to locator pin position.
The bottom one was done on a CNC machine spoke centre matches 100% with the locator pin centre
