Default Michelin 27/64/18 on 996 cup?

Has anyone tried the wider 997.2 cup front tires (27/65-18) on the front of a 996 or 997.1 cup? I have been told they fit and run fine but may rub a little on the fender liners. I wanted to get some more feedback on the matter,

TIA

You mean the 250/640. Yes they fit but some trimming or modifications is n ended. The 240/640 is no longer available

I mean the 270/650. I have 250/640 on the front now and they fit no issues but have also been told the 270/650 works too with slight mod to fender liner. The 270/650 is typically used on the front of 997.2 and I believe 991 cup car.

You are wrong

997,2 cup use 250/640

270/650 was first used on the 991 platform if we speak cup cars

Even if it would fit, I am not sure about the purpose, I would go wider in the rear at the same time if so. Think it can upset the balance in the car. I have 25 front and 3mm spacers, that is rather close to fender for sure...

I can't help directly with your original question, but to clear things up: a 997.2 Cup typically uses 275/645 tires in front and 315/680 in rear. Front wheels are 9.5 in wide (8 in. inner and 1.5 in. outer) with a 37 mm offset, and rears are 12 in. wide (9 in. inner with 3 in. outer) with a 30 mm offset.

Thats wrong info

250/640 front and 300/680 is the right tire for a 997,2 cup

Rickard is correct, that is the proper Michelin seize. The other seize is Pirelli used in Throphy west.

No, I'm not wrong, but there's a miscommunication that needs to be addressed.

What I showed is the correct Pirelli size for the DH slicks for a 997.2 (not just for the West Coast Trophy Series, but often used elsewhere as well). It is an acceptable, correct, and commonly used tire, which was what I wanted to point out to the OP, who is looking into fitment issues on his 996. The confusion comes from the fact that Michelin does not make slicks with 3-digit designations. Theirs have 2-digit designations, such as 25/64. In your first post, you tossed out a 3 digit designation (250/640), which didn't make sense, because those aren't Michelin designations. What I gave is a correct 3-digit number for slicks that come with 3 digits, in this case, the Pirelli.

Yep that is correct re the designations. I believe there is also a Pirelli 265/645 which can be used as a front tyre? The crux of the issue is that all of these tyres (265/645, 27/65, 25/64) are all within a few mm of each other in diameter but there’s obviously quite a difference in section width and tread width.

thanks for the info Rob. The 996 cup has 9inch front and 11 inch rear. I have run the Pirelli 305/680 on the rear and there is probably no reason why the 265/645 wouldn’t fit on a 9 inch rim (although slightly too wide) but I think it would definitely rub the arch liners.

someone asked why I was looking into this and the answer is I use takeoffs where I can and that’s all that’s available to me at the moment.
