Should this be of concern? (Pic)
I was doing some cleaning under the car today and noticed this damage on the outlet of the oil tank. God knows how long it’s been like this or how it even happened. You can see the outlet has been welded at some stage. Should I be concerned about this impeding oil flow to the engine?

Not ideal for sure - some others might be able to better assess the welds. I would definitely get a price on a tank and look at swapping as opposed to it cracking or losing your oil.

I was more concerned about the kincked section rather than the repair, but the kink looks to mostly be the “crimped” edge that is folded in. I assume replacing the tank is an engine out job?

Replacing that tank definitely requires dropping the engine and I'm not sure, but I may have bought the last one available just a month ago. Based on the pic it is hard to say whether the flow rate is significantly compromised. The other issue is the structural integrity of the part. If it cracks or leaks it will dump oil right by the RR tire. If you don't see any leaks you may be OK but I would watch it carefully.

Thanks for the feedback all. I was definitely more concerned about the kink in the pipe than the repair job but I’ll keep a close watch on it.
dherring, it’s hard to tell from the pics how kinked the outlet is but it looks as though it’s been pushed to the point where it’s just become slightly elongated (for want of a better word), as opposed to pushed in on itself where it would surely have reduced flow. I didn’t realise this part was also now NLA!

The kink, as you said, looks to be on the edge and is not impeding the flow of oil. If it were me I would replace the tank when in for service. Dropping the engine is not a big operation.

Three Wheelin'
The weld is apparently fine, I suggest leaving the bent area alone. The temptation would be to put pliers on it and straighten it, don't do it. Check the price of a new/used tank, you'll decide that your tank is fine.

I have already been through this process in my mind, and stopped myself before picking up the pliers. If a used tank is $800, I can only imagine what the cost of a new one would be (if available)!
