Default WTB 996 Cup Window Cowl

Looking for a new or used 996 Cup window cowl that is NLA from motorsports and just confirmed it yesterday. Part # 996.572.063.96 01C and #1 in the diagram below. Thanks!

Would it be easier to repurpose a street 996 part?

I was after one of these too and figured you could just use one from a street car and cut a hole to mount the extinguisher button. Interestingly the window wiper fouls on the cowl and a lot trim their cowl to avoid this. This probably indicates that the cowl was designed for the road car and then slapped onto the cup by Porsche without modification to suit the single wiper.

@spiller - thanks for mentioning the interference issue. I noticed that on mine and wondered if it were the wrong part. If anyone has an extra wiper arm, I need one.

Every 996 cup in Aus had the part trimmed after the cars arrived new from Porsche. Apparently there was a list of a few things that needed tinkering with...QC must not have been as good back then!

It's a little tight.

A few years ago, I tried to buy a new cowl piece as well. PMNA said it was available but expensive (I forget how much), but the parts guy told me this little "secret" that the race part is simply a street part that's been clearanced for the single wiper. I never went to check the part number on my original to see if it was, in fact, a street part number. I ended up just cleaning up the original race part and using it. My car (a 2001 model) doesn't have a button-operated fire suppression system. There's just a single control -- a loop to pull that cuts off the battery and triggers the fire system at the same time, which is not a great idea! The later versions with the button-operated suppression system separate from the battery cut-off pull loop may be more "different" from the street car part than the earlier versions.

Rob, it think that's correct. If you look at the pic above you can see the cutaway. 10 minutes with a dremel and triple the price!

I was quoted $265 AUD for the cup car part, which I thought was reasonable for Porsche even considering it’s just plastic. Still needs to be adjusted for the single wiper though.

I thought I should update this thread. I finally went to order this part and was told by my local dealer that the Motorsport part was now no longer available (price $275 AUD). I said to him to try the road car part, still available and only $195 AUD! Once received, I brought the part home, cut the clearance for the wiper with the dremel, drilled the holes for the fire button and battery cut off and it’s on the car looking better than ever! The motorsport part IS the same part as the road car. The cutting for the wiper was not done by motorsport. Yes, I believe our cars were originally delivered new with wipers that fouled on the trim cowl.

Thanks I don’t get many opportunities to drive it with young kids so some of that is made up by cleaning, lots of it!
