2015 vs 2016 cups
sorry if this has been dealt with elsewher,e i couldnt find it readily...
is there a simple list someone has of the main differences between the 2014 vs 2015 vs 2016 991.1 cups?
many of the 2014/2015s ive seen have shifttec paddles.
i see many upgraded, was it only to megaline base on the gt3 cup requirements....??
are they generally considered about the same?
what were the upgrades that PMNA required imsa spec cars to go through?
thoughts on year vs the other years? any good advice is appreciated.
what are the approximate hours one can expect to get out of the motor? out of the trans? what are the approximate rebuild costs for those motors and transmissions?
other new surprising maintenance costs that one wouldnt normally incur on lets say 997 cups?

Some issues with 2014:
Alternator and Bracket. $6K mod. Not enough power.
Front struts. Too small diameter. BENDS EASY. $2300 each
Differential - Issues Breaking
Some people have had issues with with the Shifter and others been fine. If it aint broke...

Well I don’t have the list so I went with a 2016
Tranny rebuild can go 20-30k
Motor 30-50k
BUT rebuild for IMSA has to be PMNA to be sealed other shops ie Autometrics can do as good a job for much less if you are club racing
Probably can get close to 100 hours out of Car if club racing
For IMSA I think tranny and gear box are recommended to do earlier
Also longer you wait for rebuild the most it will cost ie needing a crank or not
Good luck!!

Remember the engines through '16 are just 997 Gen2s effectively. They do not have the longevity of a 996 motor and depends who is driving. For most 100-150 hours anymore is not uncommon (although most go 100ish). Need to just watch motor health numbers.
On tranny, Porsche calls for 50-60 hours. This is mostly due to the diff. In general there will be very little wrong with a box having 100 hours.
Remember Motorsports maintenance is based upon no failures and limited info. When not driven at 10-10s by other that PRO drivers squeezing 110% out of it, you can in many cases get 2x+ the Porsche recommended time intervals. There are 996 motors out there with 200 plus hours as strong today as they were years ago.

As I recall:
2015 over 2014
Shiftec to Megaline shifter change
ECU reflash
Fuel tank pick-up
Larger alternator
Ring & Pinion change
Stronger front dampers - early cars were bending rods on curbing
Don't recall any significant changes for 2016 over 2015.
Edit: didn't see Bob's list when I posted.

U got a couple I forgot. In addition, there are a number of bulletins that you should adhere to and make changes as described. In some cases, Porsche even still pays for the new part (ie Brake Bar).

Most of the time NO they all cost. Usually things like "when you pull transmission, replace flywheel with GT America one". And they are stupid cheap (bs)... There are some things they replace like balance bar, electronic noise filter, and some other stuff that they are good about replacing. There is sort of a recall on a certain number of Cosworth Dash and IPS units right now. Bad embedded SD cards. They have to replace and this is free. All in all to stay current though, it is a fair amount of $$$$.

where you can download the tech infos/mods? if you own a car is porsche forced to give you the infos? i heard a team have to renew their permission to download relevant data every month?
are the obove subjects all ever posted tech mods for the 991?
bye
wolfgang
@viperbob - thanks for the info for purging the compressor of the shiftec unit - mine had same water inside, how is this handled on the megaline units?

Wolgang - same way, Have to remove the compressor(easy 2 nuts, the main line and an electrical connection) and then you shake it around let it sit upside down and shake some more. Here in humid florida it fills up quick.

I seem to get an email from Porsche every year requesting I confirm that I still own "X" car to maintain PMRSI access.
Porsche and "forced to give"...that's funny.

Maybe I missed it but did not see parts listed for the rear wing support kit...maybe not posted yet? 17 forward is updated within the chassis. Do the math on all the updates and a new car every season is the way to go!!!
