Default Borla Exhaust Question

For those of you with the Borla cat-back systems, which part number did you purchase, #12653 or #12654? The only difference I see is the size of the tip. One is 3.5" and the other 4". I want to be sure of the fitment and don't want to cut anything.

What year is your car? I ran into issues with the proper part numbers for my 2009 S. Also, manual or Tip/PDK?

2008. From what the Borla site says, the #12653 has 4" "race" tips and the #12654 has 3.5". Pretty sure it's the exact same system just larger tips.

I think the 987.1 had the same exhaust for manual and auto cars, the only difference between the 2 systems is the tip size. Go for the 4", it fills the factory gap nicely.

Also, Most other manufacturers mention that their systems remove the "secondary" cats, but Borla makes no mention about them. I assume they are part of the pipes that connect to the actual cats themselves. I really need to crawl under this thing and check it out. I know every inch of my spec car but not much about the Cayman S.

The 987.1 (06-08) has a cats in the headers and the muffler section. So yes the borla system removes the secondary cats, but it will not trip a CEL or anything like that.

Just put the 4 inch on my car, was not quite bolt on but relatively easy, no issue with any warning lights. Love the sound but there is a definite drone between 2400 and 2900, very loud. Just need to keep it in the upper revs

Is the drone "drive you out of the car" loud or just a little annoying? Is your car an "S"? 6 Speed? I don't remember what typical freeway cruising speed is, but does the drone fall into that rpm?

The drone on mine isn't bad in my opinion, doesn't rattle your head or anything. I can still hold a conversation at all RPMs with the exhaust, which couldn't be said for my 964 with a muffler and cat bypass. Also, the drone on mine has gotten lest noticeable after driving the car around for 1k miles or so but is still there.

I like my cars loud and the Borla is almost loud enough for my taste, but probably more than loud enough for my neighbors liking.

I have a S 6 speed, the drone is not present on the highway, it is over the 2900, the drone is louder then I would like but the sound other then that is so good I would highly recommend. Car sounds awesome on the track
