Cayman S 2014 Discount
My friend is planning on buying a 2014 Cayman S. What discount can he expect to get. Would he get a bigger discount if he took a car that is in stock.

Just purchased a 981C for 9% off MSRP without any hassles. YMMV, obviously, but I find if you do your research and find an in stock car, you are apt to get a great deal. I've been watching all of the stock at all of my local dealerships (SF, CA) and noticed that Caymans are sitting on the lot for weeks before being sold. To be fair, not many cars are selling this time of year, so you might be able to get up to 10%. My particular car was on the lot since May and I bought it in October. I think that's why they had no problem moving it for 9%...in retrospect, I probably could have gotten more!
Good luck!

S.O.P. I think.
The 2014's have been on the street for a while, so everyone that wanted to be the 1st kid on the block already bought one. You should be in a strong negotiating position for any remaining 2014's.
When I got my 2006 CS, I did exactly what you did….checking inventory anywhere in the Southwest. I ended up purchasing my car off the local dealer's lot in very early January. Seems like I got maybe $10K off on an original sticker of $65K.
Best of Luck!

We couldn't find a car spec'd the way we wanted it so we were going to have to order one. After shopping around the I found dealers telling me 4.5-7.5%. Another owner told me there was some place way south of me that was offering 9% on cars left on their lot. However, once you get into working with dealers further away, you have to figure in the cost of transporting it (or flying down and driving it back) which cuts into the difference if any between 7.5 and say 9% on a roughly $70-85K car.

A dealer actually makes some money if you finance the car through them. So that may give them a little more room to discount off the price of the car...then just pay it off early so you don't pay all the interest on it. If you pay all in cash, they lose an area where they can make some money, so it doesn't actually help a dealer when you pay cash. They may actually have less incentive to discount a car any further if you pay all cash.

I heard they can give you a better deal if you buy a car in their showroom. That wasn't an option for me. My dealer tend to build their cars for maximum comfort and expensive materials. Not much for performance. I don't need burmeister sound system, carbon interior, 18 ways seats... That car was sitting in the showroom for more than 6 months. 115k+tx. In Canada, 30k more and you get a brand new 991 gt3.
