Default tpi repair

The tpi light is "on" (2007 Cayman) and then goes to "TPI inactive. I am told the batteries go out after 4 years or so. Replacement (parts & labor) is over $1,000.00.
Definately not worth it especially with the risk of scratching the wheels during repair. Can I disable it?
