is that a custom golf stand bag in the trunk, or is it just any old stand bag? looks like porsche-issued to me. very cool.

I'm pretty sure it isn't the bag that Rodney D had in Caddy Shack. The Porsche bag had better fit.

Sorta sad in a way, though. Is Porsche marketing this car to golfers? That's not to say that there aren't any enthusiasts that are also golfers, but seems like if they're gonna do that, they might as well put in a few women's handbags and such, too. All kidding of course, but doesn't seem to be highlighting the performance aspects.

It makes me happy, but then I'm one who's carried a golf bag on the back of a motorcycle in a pinch. I think Porsche is marketing the Cayman as a sports car with more than the usual amount of carry space. Thus, an early Cayman photo I saw showed the trunk open with 8 bags of groceries inside, I didn't conclude from that photo that Porsche was marketing the car to grocery shoppers. More recent photos have shown the trunk full of scuba gear, mountain climbing gear, and skate board gear. Porsche marketing aimed at skate boarders? I sure hope one of THOSE people don't buy a cayman.

...like I'm going to drip my SALTY and SANDY scuba gear in either trunk of that car!

A golf bag is the last thing I would put in my Cayman........well, second to last......right before a bloody dead body. With a Cayman to drive on a sunny day why the heck would anyone want to stop and chase a little ball around with a stick.......just never made any sense to me, but to each his own of course.

I agree that the Cayman isn't the best choice car to drive to the golf course, mountain climbing, or scuba diving in, but in a pinch, like when the Mercedes is in the shop and the wife has the Hummer..... I made up the part about the skate board gear photo, but photos of the other gear (including the Porsche golf club bag in the trunk) appear in the Cayman S booklet available at a dealer near you. BTW, the Cayman S Tequipment catalog shows as accessories lift out plastic trays for the front and rear trunks that would protect the carpets from messy gear. The catalog also shows a clip-in protective sun shield for the rear glass ($168.05), and the various available wheels, including the Carrera Sport wheels (8.5 and 10X19", $5428.41), and the standard 18" Cayman S wheels ($3667.43). Don't forget the nice Porsche matching luggage system and the Cayman clothing from the Porsche boutique.

Notice the sticker price on the display car at 71K. As I understand, all dealers got the same configured car. When I saw the little darling at my dealer they also had a common Carrera in the showroom optioned up to a whopping 100 grand, that's an additional 29 grand. Plus, all of the cars in stock had options averaging about 10 grand. Are people actually bamboozled by this?

If I order a Cayman or Carrera it's going to be a base car. The only thing I would get is the cabin partition for Cayman if they offer it.

I love these babies but when it comes to options Porsche can kiss my canteloupes. Man, the stuff they extort you with is incredible.

The first batch of Caymans will be coming off of their leases in Jan 2009 ... I am expecting we will be able to pick them up in the mid to upper $30's at that point.

If I have not bitten the bullet and bought a 997 GT3 by that time the Cayman will be my next track car.

Atta boy. Get the cabin partition that fits between you and the passenger.

Apparently that's not the case. My local dealer (Parktown) rec'd its PCNA owned display Cayman S today. I just stopped by for a quick look. It's Basalt black w/black interior & sport seats. Bi-xenon, heated seats, 19" Carrera Classic wheels, TPMS, Bose, no PASM or chrono.

IMO it looks far better in person than the photos, especially from the rear. Nice curves and a very wide look. The car was just off the truck & had not been prepped. The interior is pretty much straight Boxster w/some minor upgraded trim pieces & treatment throughout the car.
