Auto stop / start

Advanced
I found a Video in Motion device (dongle) from KUFATEC, Germany. It connects to OBD port. They told me they can access the vehicle via the dongle that is connected to a laptop so they can look at the config and change it.
I had to give them 3 days window, so I am waiting for holidays to get it worked.

EPA....
....It's Federal Law in the United States, as per EPA regulations, that the Auto Stop/Start feature MUST default to "on" on each key cycle.
If a customer can leave it "off" all the time, it defeats the fuel saving and green house gas fighting purpose of the technology.

FYI -- the auto stop, at least on the 2014 981, once defeated remains off until you push the button again engaging it no matter how many key cycles it goes through.

All US Porsche models will not remember auto/start/stop starting this year (2017). It's been like that for a few years in Europe.
And T-Design9 has a memory device that solves that problem...

Have a 2018 CS with the premium package and I still have to disable the auto/stop start. It automatically is disabled in Sport and Sport Plus mode and can be programed to off when in the individual mode. I just passed the 2000 mile mark a couple of days ago and as part of the break-in I ALWAYS disabled the auto/stop start I did not want the oil draining from around those cylinders while at an extended stop and impacting the cylinder surface wear-in.....the initial start up was enough.....
My routine was start the car, disable auto stop/start, put on my seat belt and release the parking brake.......it's a habit now and in my opinion no need to spend $200 for a module that does it plus don't want to start mucking with the center console.
During the break-in, kept the RPM's mostly under 4200, no cruise control to vary the rpm's, waited until the oil temp reached 194 degrees Fahrenheit to push the 718, avoided using Sports Plus and the Sports Response button, and of course no lugging the engine which is near impossible to do with PDK. The 718 is amazing and loads of fun!

Surely Porsche took that into consideration though??

Possibly but then again they didn't anticipate the IMS bearing issue a few years back or the recent problems with the "E" and "F" engines in the GT3's in both the 2015's and some of the 2016's with some of the engines failing and having to be replaced. I prefer to apply common sense principles to car maintenance issues which admittedly may not be that important but are potential problems that are easy to side step.

That all depends on what are the Porsche priorities these days. We simply don't know. But can guess: they prioritize fuel savings (non-sport mode) over engine running cooler (sport mode). That we know for sure

I am a current 718CS PDK owner and I hate "auto-stop", but I live with it. I sacrifice mileage in town by driving in sport auto. Out of town, I drive in manual in a mix of sport and non sport. In non sport auto I don't like the engine running in such low rpm's. My car feels fine in 1800rpm's or higher. I get it that I could get better mpg just sticking in auto, non sport, with the auto stop on, but not only do I hate that driving mode, but at my age and experience, I have a hard time believing that that style of driving isn't having unnecessary wear on the engine, starter, battery, etc.
On another note, I just accept that I have to switch off the start stop.
Hell, after the last eight years, we're lucky if we'll be able to drive thes cars much longer

driving a 2017 Macan and one I press the auto start/stop it stays that way through key cycles. I haven’t had to press it again.

A/S/S. Save a few pennies of gas, but replace battery and starter more often. No environmental impact there. So glad my 2014 remembers the last setting. A/S/S is disabled always in my 991.
