Auto stop / start
Since I'm sort of kind of in the market for a 718 Cayman S and this engine auto stop/start feature is present but a feature I'm not that fond of my research is that it can be disabled by pressing a button on the dash but the setting is not remembered when the operator shuts off the engine.
Previous years the "setting" would be remembered but since 2016 the engine auto stop/start feature forgets this disabled setting when the operator shuts off the engine and it has to be disabled again -- the button pressed again -- the next time the engine is started.

Like Macster said, it's always "on" when you first turn on the car and you have to press the button to turn it off.
That being said, if you have the Sport Chrono package, you can configure an "individual" mode that you can configure the spoiler, auto start/stop, exhaust, and sport / sport plus modes. This just requires turning the dial to the left after starting up.
Also, Auto Start/Stop is automatically disabled when in either Sport or Sport Plus modes - so if you always press the "Sport" button anyway, then you're already turning it off

I think you just need the seat memory (premium package?) to save the start/stop settings. I turned mine off and it stays off, 2016 Cayman. There's also a company that makes a memory module if you don't have that option.
I also have memory settings and have saved them multiple times after turning it off - I'll double check again today and poke around the settings but I'm 90% sure that it does not save for me

The porsche.com builder says that it saves between restart, but I can confirm it definitely does not... I have to turn it back off every time I start the car.

Example: the 12V power sockets will time out on my 2016 Cayman, but they stay on for others' 2015s and 2014s. I had to hook my battery tender directly to the battery to keep the juice flowing after 30 minutes.
FWIW I think auto stop start can be dangerous. I had a 2011 Cayenne S. Several times the car stalled on leaving a stop sign, one time the engine actually stopped after the take off - which is very bad in a moving car. Also, it happened, complete with an engine shut down, during a demo drive in a Macan! Undeterred, I bought a 2015 Macan S with pdk and have had the same experience. That is three different, but similarly equipped, cars. It seems to happen when braking with the left foot and operating the throttle with the right foot. When rolling and stopping while waiting for an opening in traffic, auto stop start gets confused. No one can explain why the engine actually shut down, including my service people. I am waiting for a 718 Cayman with manual transmission, and I expect there will be no such problems since my left foot will be otherwise occupied. Should left foot braking be allowed? Well, there are two pedals and two feet....

Can it be done without looking like an idiot? Yes. But more often than not unless you're racing around you probably have no reason to brake with the left foot.
The A/s/s was saved on US cars, and not on European car for a while now. But in 2017 all the new Porsches in US will reset to A/s/s ON now too.
The bad news is - there is no way to change that behavior through the dealer or piwis.
The good news is T-Design Memory module fixes this problem in 5 minutes. It will save/remember a/s/s, sport mode and PSE for you.

If it would remember to stay in Individual mode - then yes - that would be a perfect solution.
As it is now - the sportiest car in the world will always start in the "lame" mode as I call it. Because some green politicians decided it for us. Then you have to DO something every time you get in the car. Yes, it's just one dial turn. But why? Why would the car not remember to stay in the individual mode? Where is logic in that? That would be like seats memory (1,2,3) would always go to 0 after you stop the car. Then you'll have to press your 1 every time you start the car so the seat goes to your liking. Just illogical.
