Default Turbocharger lifespan on 08-10 CTT?

I know from B5 Audi S4 ownership that the stock turbos can go and need replacement in the 100,000 km range.

Is this a issue in the Cayennes? In my research it has not come up as a problem but I wanted to get some input from the community

My understanding is that the turbos themselves (the actual turbocharger) are pretty robust. There are numerous cars with well over 100k miles (200k in a couple cases) that are still on the original units.

Here is one over 200k:

Note the list of stuff that was replaced. Turbos aren't on it.

There are a few reports of cracked turbine housings. Replacing a turbo is a major undertaking that takes several days worth of work.

You never know until you get there, but I believe at this point that even if the turbo upgrade/replacement will cost more than the book value of my car in a few years, I might still do it. I love my Cayenne and i know how it's been maintained. NOT having a new car payment and property tax is like my car paying me to drive it. But if I did replace the turbos at some point, on an '06 TTS, I'd hope to go with an upgrade and I'm having a hard time figuring out what that would be. I've made a few inquiries to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

Turbos are designed to last the life of the car. Water cooled turbos tend to last quite a bit better than the older oil (only) cooled.

Yup. Do the 63mm compressor swap from Tristate turbo.
I have it on mine and it is great. My biggest mistake was having a local guy do a WG actuator swap on them and he fcuked it up. I haven't fired up the CTTS for about a month or so now as it needs a lot of stuff that I don't have time to do.

And to answer the original question - I changed the turbos on my SO's 08 CTT at around 110k miles. Just a precaution from my side.
The housings had hairline cracks around the WG outlet on turbine side. Nothing major, I can see them go healthy up to 250k miles without issues if you're not stupid and let oil warm up before stepping on it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the 4.8T motors have different Turbos than our IHI RHF5's? Are they still IHI turbos?

Yup, different turbos. The 957 TT has MHI TD04-HL-18T
