Default Durametric cannot connect to module

Ive searched and have been going back and forth but to no avail. I've followed instructions from durametric but for some reason the Gen 2 enthusist durametric I have cannot connect to control module. I'm trying to read my coding on electrical system so I can make some changes if any. I had the engine running, flashers on, etc...driving "08 GTS

Did it ever work for you?

What version of the SW and cable FW are you using? The only time I had trouble with the ECU was when I didn't have the car "on" but not running.

I had a problem where it would hang reading the airbag but the latest cable FW fixed that (but I don't think it's been generally released yet) but I still get an unhandled exception when reading the FR Door. They're still working on that one.

Waiting to hear from Durametric...sent a log to them after telling them what issue was. SW and FW are up to date after going through trouble shooting with tech support.

I have had that problem for 3+ years, opened a ticket Fall of 2013, sent screen shots, logs, etc. Said they would look at it. Multiple follow ups every month for 3 months, last I was told.

"There seems to be an issue with the way we attempt to communicate with this unit. It looks like this unit, out of all the others, communicates differently. We continue to research the issue."

Only help I got was it is my computer. Try different ones (I had tried from 4 different laptops.)

Nada. I assume since it is still broken, they are still researching the issue the last 1.5 years.

Good Luck.

I always get a phantom fault on the electrical system in my 08S when I read codes with my Durametric Pro. PIWIS confirms that there is no fault.

Thing that sucks is I'm trying to do some of the coding you (Touraeg) you suggested in previous posts about auto headlight and annoying door chime. Oh well we shall see...

As soon as I get off my cheap *** and purchase a newer vag-com, I plan to do some experiments with that. There is a bit in the vag-com config to enable the cayenne for scanning. Something has changed from the 955 to 957.

Thats interesting, can you elaborate at all as I have the latest VCDS (vag-com) and have just purchased Durametric pro

The old 955/957 cars have two K-lines. One for the DME/Motoronics whatever it is called and one for the rest of the electronics. Not sure for the 958. I also know VW last few years started encrypting canbus modules to prevent people like us from hacking around. No clue if that was done on the 958s. Might be a coding thing, just speculating of course.

The vag-com I have only checks the standard 1st k-line.

All from my old man memory, so probably wrong.

I made and adapter for my Vag-Com to swap the k-lines but it was never able to see the modules (only DME I think) in my 955. I later found out my cable was pretty old (single vs dual k-line), so there is hope on a newer cable ($150 to upgrade my old one) There is even an ini file that has the cayenne and all the modules commented out in the vag-com software you can enable:

Just thought I'd update that with the latest Durametric software the phantom fault to which I referred in post #5 above is now gone

You need the Pro version of the cable to be able to do coding. I don't know if the Enthusiast version can see the coding parameters but just can't change them or if it can't see them either.

When I bought my cable, the software was version 5 and I was told the only difference with the pro and enthusiast was that you could only do 3 vins over the life of the cable.

With 6 they mentioned this change was coming, and I asked what was the point of this $300 cable if all you could do was read codes and reset and they Cayenne was not well supported at the time. Not cool to change that.

I was told by support that this would be something they were considering to change. So far I can still do coding with my cable, which is enthusiast.

This may be an interesting page - http://durametric.com/modelfeaturematrixv6.aspx

Historically, Coding has only been possible with the Professional Version of the cable. The statement at the top of this page still says that and it's for Version 6

Also, on the 3 VINs issue, if you sold a car, they used to let you return the cable and have that VIN deleted from it so if you had multiple Porsches you could use it on all your current ones (up to 3).

Let us know if you find out something different than what they state here.

Actually at the very bottom of that page there's another note I just saw that says -

so looks like you're right, but the matrix shows that Coding features are limited to certain modules

The problem is the module uses the newer long coding format.

A newer vag-com can handle this OK, in fact I used it to make changes.
