Default 2004 Cayenne S – Moving to California – Smog test question

The car is 2004 Porsche Cayenne S, 133,000 miles. Car has always passed emissions in state of VA. In VA, emission test is limited to checking error codes through OBDII port.
We are in the process of moving to San Diego (Enhanced zip code), California.
If you live in San Diego (Enhanced zip code area), do they check Smog/emission through OBDII or do they test exhaust gas using a Smog Machine for 2004 SUV?
My understanding is that exhaust gas test is done for cars older than year 2000?
Could someone please confirm this?

Nope, they are plugged into the sniffer at the exhaust regardless of age, as well as the ObdII port. If it's not modified you'll have no issues.

Default CA Smog Check

DoubleURX is correct; California's smog check procedure is pretty comprehensive. Prices for smog checks are all over the place. I typically look for a coupon (Yelp or similar), which can cut the cost by more than 50%. (I believe I paid $35 to smog my daughter's Volvo.)

Thank you for the infor

My cayenne has upgraded muffler mainly for the sound, I wanted to pre test and compre results to California passing smog values but my local emmesion centers would not test the gas even with $$$ hence no way of knowing if. This will pass in CA or not

As long as the original cats are in place, you'll have no issues.

Ok 2004 cayenne will not come to California. Now I have a different question to ask.
Does anybody have a cayenne with secondary cat bypass installed in California? Would this pass smog, I also heard sometimes they perform visual inspection and fail if secondary cats are out- true?

It depends on the knowledge of the station. If they do a visual and know what they are looking at, it would fail.

Is it stock? The OP's car has a cat bypass. A stock car will, of course, pass without issues.
