Default '04 Cayenne Turbo-Part out or Salvage

I looked long and hard for the right Cayenne turbo and to make a long story short...my wife rearended someone on the 405 just north of LAX.

It was a one owner with 19 pages of records and a super meticulous owner. The insurance company finally settled with me and I am just trying to decide what to do. Front bumper, assembly and lights are gone as well as the radiator bent in.

The frame is straight, it runs and had almost every factory option. Was never in an accident and I figure between the engine, the big reds, wheels, tranny, panels and doors has to be worth more parted out. I just don't have the space for it as it is on my two post lift in a very crowded garage.

I am open to offers as it sits. I have NOT rebranded or registered the title yet as I had it shipped from Texas. According to the notice I got from the DMV, I have 3 more days to do so if I want to do in California.

Vehicle is in Manhattan Beach

I posted on possibly turning into a Mad Max inspired off road animal Or Transyberria etc. but don't have the time to pull off.

If you don't have the time or space to part it, why even consider taking it from the insurance company. If they totaled it, let them have it and move on. Bummer this happened just after moving. If I remember, California requires reregistration within 30 days. Horrible welcome to CA.

as it was explained to me by the agent, they don't actually buy it back. I would have to contact salvage yards that put bids on it. I don't have the time and space but I am not going to give it to a salvage yard for 4k when the engine and calipers are at least worth that.

This is the first time I have ever had a vehicle declared a total loss and couldn't believe how low the settlement ended up being. I am just trying to get back some of the money lost. I am sure you and others can understand that.

I had it shipped from Texas, but have lived in CA for almost 15 years though. Not only did I lose on the purchase price, but I also lost on the shipping....

If you don't mind, what did the insurance company pay to total it prior to the deductible? Just trying to get a feeling on how much I want to spend on one myself. How many miles were on it?

Create a free acct with Photobuckets. Then it's a simple copy and paste.

I put images in my Dropbox "public" folder and just right click "copy link". Works like a charm. The images are local to my computer can be updated on the fly and are just synced to the cloud automatically. Much more control and easier than photobucket or other wise.

Well, I could use some gray interior parts for my '05. So, if someone snags it to part it, let us know!

Unless you have the means to store it, dismantle heavy assemblies, and ship efficiently, you'd make more per hour invested by taking a part-time job flipping burgers.

I agree that the remaining parts are probably worth more than the $4k number you mention, but can YOU get more? I mean, let's say you hit it lucky and get an order for the engine? Can you pull, crate and then ship the engine to the buyer?

An alternative may be for you to buy another 04 Turbo, put this one in a rented storage and then use it for parts as you need them. I'd say this isn't probably a paying option unless your new ride has some major parts failure.

Sometimes we lose in life. This time you lost money but learned the value of the phrase 'agreed upon value' when buying insurance.
