I replaced the whole shaft last night took about 2 hrs with my neighbor.
Cayenne has 58000 miles.
I have 53,000 on my '06 with no sign of wear. But I've yet to tow and understand that the extra load causes increased wear. I'm planning to buy an Airstream later this summer for a grand tour of NA and may replace the bearing proactively.

Just bought a 25' Airstream and my wife and I are going to be full timers for the next year. First trip up the coast and through the Canadian Rockies. And yes, I replaced the cardan shaft and it was showing signs of wear. Were we not planning to tow 6,500 lbs for the next year, I would have deferred the work.
