Weight Reduction Ideas??
At under 1900lbs for a 930s I'm very impressed. Giving that the factory lightened these cars some, I would think they are still heavier to start with than an earlier chassis. Your 930S would be of the 90's variety, 1 of 80?
Can you give us the details of your build that you will at least reveal to us, I'm sure that I'm not the only one that could benefit from your experience.
TIA
The Porsche Cup here was sillouette type formula with the classes being dictated by power to weight ratio. The engine was dynoed prior to the event and weighed then rechecked at scruiteneering. That car isn't eligable for anything here anymore with the Carrera Cup taking over. It was a good toy though!!
That car was built out of a dipped 1971 shell with cro-moly cage and carbon everything, aviation wiring loom, FT3 tank etc... there isn't much Porsche left - even the brakes were ditched in favour of Alcons with titanium pistons etc. I am updating my web page which will show photos of it and some of the more recent cars - I will post the link when it is up again...
If you are serious about weight there are lots of places to shed some kilos. Start with big items like replacement doors, rear guards, windows etc and keep going until you have hollow cro-moly sway bars, aluminium battery cables and light weight fluid lines, replace the guages with an error light from the ECU, aluminium fasteners or titanium bolts for structural parts etc... Acid dip the car and use less paint! (4 liter of primer weighs 4kg!).
The car we won the Australian F2 championship in was light enough that we had to add weight to get it to the FIA minimum. That way we could get it corner weighted perfectly. It makes a difference!!
